Do you have a grinder? Diamond cutoff wheels aren't that much and they will go through the steel and concrete.

well yeah. but caps fall off/come loose, and concrete does the same thing permanently.

Concrete is brittle. If you can cut all the way around the pole through the metal then just hit it with the rusty sledge hammer, it should break right off. I did this with a tether-ball pole that was in our yard using a Saws-All. It left a little 2" stub sticking up, but after I broke it off, a few solid hits with the hammer broke everything to pieces, then I just pulled the post out.

Election day in Germany. I moved in the timeframe between receiving my notification and the election day, but when I registered my new residence, they told me I would still have to vote in my old residence's electoral district. Since I always vote, I figured I shouldn't let a four-hour train ride stand between me and my duty as a citizen of this country, so I spent most of my morning riding the train. I handed over my license and my notification after a total of five hours of journey, only to be told that I'm not eligible to vote.

Turns out that the information I got at the registry office was wrong, I was supposed to vote in my new residence's electoral district after all. At that point, however, it was physically impossible to get back in time and I missed the election by a bit more than an hour.

I was quite infuriated, but lucky me, I had a four-hour train ride home before me. Plenty of time to calm down!

This makes me hate America and our dismal voting turnout. I get odd reactions when I go vote, my municipality votes in the church's K-8 catholic school and I vote every year, so when its an offyear I'm like the only one under 55 there and everyone is like wtf is this kid doing.

Went at the slabs with a pick axe, 16 pound sledgehammer, and a 5 foot long pry bar. I think I'm dying. Both slabs are about eight inches thick. I was able to break about 1/3 off one of them before my arms felt like they were on fire. Pick axe broke, thankfully saved the receipt. I exposed three pieces of rebar so of course I tried to pull it up, didn't even budge. Jackhammer time.

Wet clothes can add up, especially if you've got like 4 lines per pole or more. Thinking it might've been easier to just dig out the whole cement anchor by this point, though.

There are at least three two foot long pieces of rebar in each one. Potentially more. I was expecting maybe two at the most. I also was not expecting the slabs to be as thick as they are. That was surprising. I'm probably just going to get my buddy's jackhammer and destroy it.

I'm moving next weekend and I just got around to packing up all my books and now I want to kill myself. I love books, but moving and being reminded of how goddamn heavy they are is almost enough to convince me to go all digital.

I do, too, but that is exactly what made me make the switch. I kept a couple of my favorite books and the HP series and everything else went digital.

Haha, yes, it's exactly like that where I went to vote. In that municipality, voters have to go to a retirement home to vote, so there's an enormous line of old people there, with chairs provided so they can sit down. I spent about half an hour waiting for my turn, and aside from myself, there was one other voter there who did not look like he lived there (though he brought his family; noisy children, of course).

The last time was even worse, since I had lost my eyebrows in a freak-accident while shaving my head. I was among all those old people and they looked at me like I was practically dead.

Christ, I hear you. I'm moving on Saturday as well and I've got several shelves of books and CDs that I need to transport. Wondering if I should store them separately or just transport them inside of the bookshelves, would save me a lot of trouble. Though I'm not sure if the back of the shelf would give in under the weight.

I've considered going digital, but I'm not sure if I would like that. Most of what I have is 1) not digitally available, 2) I like holding the book while reading it and 3) I love shelves full of books.
