Hmmm, sounds a lot like my geology class at the UofM first year....lol.

So our company went under a huge merger a few months ago and this past two weeks has been the merge of our two databases.
Problem is, the people they hired to do this have no fucking idea what they're doing, and they've screwed up a dozen things (that we've found so far, I'm honestly wondering what else they fucked up). Things that we warned them about before doing this merge, but they refused to listen, even though the people in this office have a combined total of 45 years of experience.
And since my primary duty is to maintain and keep this database updated (essentially, I am responsible for the content of the database), it's fucking up my job and I'm being blamed for shit that is not my fault.
I am so close to quitting right now, like I'm honestly considering packing up my shit and being gone by the end of the day. The only thing keeping me here right now is the fact that I need a paycheck.
Not knowing what the databases are for, but could they have been kept separate?
I've been saying that for months ...
We're a national broadcasting company that recently purchased another one. That's all I will say because with enough research I'm sure you could figure out who we are. The databases could, in theory, be kept separate, and we'd just need to cross-communicate with the other team (aka idiots) for credit decisions. Each of the stations (well, markets, because each market has at least 2 stations) has all of their billing and invoicing separate so all payments to say, Atlanta invoices are sent separate of payments to Tampa invoices, separate from payments for Dallas invoices. Etc. So keeping them separate wouldn't have been too horrible in my opinion, but part of mergers are, well, merging.
What really sucks is that they assured us everything was going to take a long time, "it'll be 2 years before you see any merging between databases," which was fine with me because I'm only here until I graduate, now I have to actually deal with this crap which is the last thing I wanted.
Nothing no one's seen before. Facebook religious debate.
Happened while I was at work, so I just watched it unfold.
Spoiler: show
This guy always says he loves a good religious debate but then all his threads are just him basically saying he has proof he's right but everyone's entitled to their own wrong opinion lol
stopped reading after the pokemon comment.
some people just can't wrap their brains around evolution as a concept, which is silly because we literally have games that explain it. Ever play telephone? Pretty much how evolution happens.
So among other things, I handle all Temporary on travel orders for my command. I'm responsible for the travel budget, and for training my members on creating vouchers and getting tickets for flights, and hotel rooms for whereever they'll be staying, as well as coordinating all of this on their Govt' CCs to ensure this is all paid for without dipping in their their personal accounts. That being said, a lot of work goes into this, and it's just a minor portion of what I do on a daily basis. Now, for all people in the region (Far East) that have my access, we have a guy that we go to when shit happens that we don't know how to handle. Well, this mother fucker left at the end of May, and his farewell email said zilch about a replacement. My Commander decides to email around to see if a replacement for him is in place, and what the contact info for said person would be. The response email was.... holy shit. Basically said "if your guy at your command can't figure it out, you need to send him to training, like everyone went through. You should contact the nearest senior Naval command to get this done." Not a huge problem, except on Okinawa, I belong to the Aviation guys, and we ARE the Senior command, as far as Patrol and Recon goes in this AOR. There is a more senior command, but since we don't fall under their complete authority (they're a surface command), the people they have that would NORMALLY assist someone in my situation doesn't have access to my accounts to assist with anything, and therefore AREN'T ALLOWED to help us. So myself and my Commander walk in this morning to that email which sets us both off, because the email basically goes on to say "if you can't get help at the next level, you're fucked" and left nothing in terms of actual contact information for getting situations resolved. Liquid lunch inc
tl;dr = Super important guy leaves, nobody replaces him, and his boss doesn't give a fuck that people are up shit creek without a paddle now
Have you considered using a water bottle on your boss?
my boss has nothing to do with it. that being said, I've used a water gun, paintballs, and cream pies (not sperm, actual pies) on him, i've got him pretty well trained at this point.
White lady gets pissed that a teller dared to ask for two ids before giving her $1000. Bitch goes super nuts, slinging racist comments and accusing the black people of being against her. We call the cops, shut down her accounts, standard procedure (I'm a banker with no dog in this fight, took two hours out of my day to do this crap instead of what I was supposed to be doing).
District manager apologizes to her the next day and reopens everything.
The moral here: it's okay to treat bank employees like shit if you're white.
I'm white and I hate white people.
nah. if that lady is black, she's spending a night in jail and this makes the news.
Wouldn't get the account turned back on, that much is for sure. lol.
(Wrong thread but pertinent to discussion) I was printing a portfolio at OfficeMax last night and the woman in front of me was being a total bitch about her (shitty) project she wanted printed. After she was done the employee and I got to talking and I mentioned how I could sympathize, once being in retail as well. At the end he handed me my portfolio and said "this one's on us" because apparently I was the only nice customer that whole entire day. Who knew that being courteous and generally a nice person could get you more than you expected?
Honestly everyone should be forced to work a year of retail just so they can experience how shitty it is.
Thankfully my professional history includes very little customer service but just watching things happen around me in life and hearing stories it seems clear that people are at their absolute worst when dealing with retail and food service employees. It's sad.
This kinda goes hand in hand with the common dating advice about how you should be able to judge someone a bit by how they treat waiters and the like. If I'm ever on a date and the girl is a jerk to the waiter or whatever, that's it
SO MUCH FUCKING THIS. If I ever had kids they would be getting a job in retail. I've spent the better part of my life in retail jobs and honestly most of them I enjoyed because I know how to give great service but also know how not to be taken advantage of. I also learned how to tell people to fuck off without them realizing it..lol. I know retail is hell for most places part due to the entitlement of customers in general then you also have the other side of managers not giving any fucks too. But I truly believe once you have to deal with the general public daily you tend to have some understanding.
Then there are people who are just dicks no matter what.
I started retail at age 15 and only since 2012 have I not been forced to go back to it which I am grateful for.
