i was summoned for jury duty once. i was delighted; nothin better to do. forgot to call the night before, drove ~100 miles, spent the night in a hotel, showed up only to find out it wasn't going to trial so i didn't need to show up.

least i wasn't the only one. two other people did the same thing, one guy from quite a lot further away.

I was lazy yesterday and put a few cans of diet soda in the freezer to get cold. Must have forgotten one and woke up and opened my freezer to see it exploded everywhere. We just recently restocked everything so scraping that shit off was a pain in the ass. To top it off hubby and I just had a discussion not two days ago how I've never had a can full on explode - so I had to conceded he was right. Fuck.

I feel like, the people who would ACTUALLY be fair and consider all angles of the trial are the ones wearing the GOD HATES FAGS shirts and claiming some ridiculous bullshit to get out of Jury duty,

and the people who are actually religious and/or would be swayed by "gossip" are the ones actually being selected for these trials.

I see. Yeah, I suppose if they don't pay you/your work gives you shit for it... I would have thought that would be part of the law, that if the government summons you it's on their head, not yours. Huh...

It may vary by state, but from my understanding, they have to give you the time off for jury duty but they don't have to pay you for the day off.

I did jury service perhaps about 12 or more years ago (I forget exactly but there was a UEFA football championship thingy going on at the time). I spent about 4 days doing nothing except reading Good Omens and magazines. The last day I finally got selected in a group of jurors but I wasn't picked in the end. So a week wasted basically.

Moved to FL to go to college, and shortly thereafter, MO tries to get me to do jury duty. My mom had to fake my signature and provide some evidence that I didn't live there anymore. Moved to TX for job, and shortly thereafter, FL tries to get me to do jury duty. No one in my family even lived in FL anymore, so it was a pain in the ass to get them to let me off the hook. Lived in TX for 5 years and got tagged again. Thankfully, all I had to do was call a phone number and they were like "we don't need you today."

I'm not even 30 and they've tried to call me up for jury duty 3 times already, christ. My wife got jury duty once and just threw it in the trash; no repercussions.

Some get that shit all the time. I am 25 I got called once in college, once after then less than 2 months after the second call i received grand jury duty. I was off the hook but fuck.then there is my dad who has been called once in his life and was released the first day.

I was called once in college as well. I was called once after that to server in the county my parents' lived in, but I was living somewhere else. Haven't heard anything since then.

I have a hard enough time taking 1 day off because I'm sick. I cant imagine a week or even a few days. I'll have hundreds of emails when I get back.

My flight to Philly was cancelled ... which is the connector to Erie ...

Just booked another flight that goes through Detroit to Erie and arrives about 2 hours later, but still. Now I'm on hold with the airline trying to get a refund for the flight they cancelled. I've lost the call 3 times after waiting on hold for 30 minutes. Super annoyed.

My dad paid for this one, but now that I finally got ahold of them, they were glad to refund the money.

I paid for the new flight with my own money (good thing I got paid today), but my dad will just write me a check to cover it. It's actually a better price, but a longer travel time. Either way, I'm not missing my dad's retirement party, or meeting my niece for the first time, so I guess this counts as a random win now.
