Just not my day today. Put the kid to bed come back to a voicemail on my work phone. A garage I had given three advances to so they could make payroll apparently never paid their drivers, took the money, closed up shop, sold all the trucks, and have vanished.
And the fucking cat just crop dusted me.
So, little backstory:
I'm renting a room in this 2 story house, and the landlord/roommate that owns the place is a ten-ton bitch. I have to recycle everything, even paper plates I cover with greasy food she expects me to wash then recycle etc as an example of how nutty this person is. Today was 94 degrees outside, and as you might imagine it made the house really hot. I turn the central air to 70 degrees and fall asleep. I wake up to texts "why do you have a fan on and the thermostat moved? I don't want you moving the thermostat unless you want to pay that bill. this isnt like living with your parents". Just...ungh. really? I really want to chew this dumbshit out but I risk losing my place. The concept of a sweltering house is obviously too much for this person.
I hate renting.
Say you have a medical condition.
Booked a last minute trip to Bermuda for the 4th of July. Not sure if its a random fail or win that I am going to a British Colony for Americas 4th.
Your arrival to the islands on such an auspicious day will surely rally the people to revolt and you will have ruined your own vacation.
gg
Sorry folks, rant inc that I don't want to FB but I definitely want to get it out...
My dad had to have open heart surgery yesterday morning, it came up pretty abrupt like I knew there was an issue but he was talking about late August last I heard. I was supposed to meet my mom at the hospital to "be there" for her because both my sisters are in Pennsylvania atm (1 lives there, 1 visiting). My fucking alarm app on the phone decided to take a shit and I completely missed the post-surgery Doctor's consultation and left my mom sitting at the hospital by herself. Which meant plenty of upset texts/voice mails from my sisters because they hounded me about being sure to show up and also my mom again pointing out that she bought me a real alarm for similar reasons.
The next day (today) I had the third meeting in as many weeks with the owner of my company and basically told him I need more work or I've got to throw em the dueces. He obliged by creating a position that could use my skills. The catch is I have a somewhat short deadline to show I can do shit better and save us money. Meanwhile my dad has apparently suffered a stroke during the surgery (which I found out via text at 11pm omw home from work 'cause you know, two jobs 12-14hr days) and is having trouble saying words. My mom said "it was kind of scary" but she also said the doctors all had their theories and thought it would hopefully pass in the next week or so. This means on my first day of training in a position that only exists because I asked for it... I have to call in "Family Emergency".
The timing on bad shit is always bad.
TL;DR iPhone Alarm App glitched and I missed some important stuff and then some other shit happened too.
i'm sure you know this, but i recommend setting two alarms. i use my phone for alarms i need when i'm awake, such as appointment times, and i use my alarm clock for waking myself up at the correct times. i always set my phone to remind me 24 hours beforehand so i don't lose track of what day it is and forget to set the clock alarm.
anyway that fucking sucks, hope your dad gets better.
That really sucks. I'm sure shit will get better and maybe say to your boss that you are so confident on you skills that training was a waste of time and you got crunk instead. (This was a joke. Don't do that)
I set my alarm clock for the time I want to get up, and my phone alarm for 1m after that.
Alarm clock is always the main one, but if the power goes out/blips or something it's useless. Likewise, if my phone dies/glitches or is a twat for some other reason, I have the alarm. Odds of both going bad on the same day a pretty damn low (hasn't happened yet!...knock on wood).
I used to be notorious with the snooze button too, and would set my alarm for 10-15m before I wanted to get up just so I could hit it at least once... then I realized that was stupid, and all I was doing was ruining another 10m of time I could've been peacefully and happily asleep. So now I set the alarm to leave exactly enough time + ~1-3m to get ready for work on time.
Fail: Getting home from the gym last night at 10pm, when I have to wake up at 5:15am.![]()
Always put at least 1 alarm clock/device in a place you can not reach from your bed.
Seconded.
My main alarm forces me to get out of bed to turn it off. So much better (though I HATED it in the morning, at first).
Had to take my car into the shop for the second time in 6 months of owning it. First time was a defective battery which kept me from putting it in accessory mode and would cause my clock to reset periodically. Monday leaving work for the gym and the check engine light is on. Run the vehicle health report and look it up, and it's something to do with the emissions. Dropped it off yesterday, told the soonest it will be looked at is today. To add insult to injury, I left my sunglasses in the car AND left mine and my wife's tickets for the county fair on Sunday in the glove box. At least I remembered my garage door clicker...
Ugh, old houses.
Oven stops working. Buy a new oven. Delivery guy comes and pulls out the old oven; "You're hard-wired to your oven; I'm only qualified to move and plug/unplug things, so you're going to need to contact an electrician." Electrician comes and tells me that my oven line is 30amp when my current oven can do 36amp, and the new oven can go even higher at 40amp and he'd suggest running some new wire along with adding the plug we called him out for. He goes to look at my breaker box and tells me my breaker box is old as shit and potentially a fire hazard (my father confirms), and that the breaker box is wired strangely. He goes into the attic and says I have frayed wires (thanks to the raccoons/squirrels we used to get up there). He goes outside and tells me that the power line going to my house is attached to the house too low (code violation) and that the inspector may red flag us on it if we get city permits to replace the breaker box (or something). Oh, and he wants to sell me whole-home surge protection because my house has none.
All this for the low low price of $6~7k. Add onto that the cost of the new oven, and the wife wants a new mattress. Fuuuuuuuuuuuuck we wanted to go to the XIV Fanfest thing...
I was going to get myself a WiiU for my birthday, but NOPE
