Well it isn't really a good time when you're a kid and they burrow into your body
Well it isn't really a good time when you're a kid and they burrow into your body
Went to Walmart to get my girl some perfume, the tag under it said $50 which I expected. When it rang up, it rang up as facial cream. I politely told the lady that I thought the barcode on my item may had been mismarked, as it was suppose to be a higher price. Well at Target they'll honor the cheaper price, oh hell no, Walmart immediately refunded it and re-rang it up at the higher price.
Of course I wanted the cheaper price, but I wanted to mention it to make myself feel a little morally aligned. Kind of like when somebody goes to tip you and you say "no, you dont have to do that" when in all honesty you want it. Well this time they took the tip back.
Wow, that's a lot. Do you live in North America? If so, I'm wondering how the general population feels about ticks there, as opposed to Germany.
Whether it's TV or health-magazines, pretty much everyone here makes it seem like being bitten by a tick equals death due to their potential to infect you with terminal diseases and what not. Due to that, I'm usually extremely wary when the dog has any.
Tick Bites Linked to Red Meat Allergy
http://www.webmd.com/allergies/news/...d-meat-allergyBites from a certain type of tick can make people allergic to red meat, according to experts.
As Lone Star ticks have spread from the Southwest to the East Coast of the United States, the number of people suffering an allergic reaction after eating red meat has increased, CBS News reported.
However, many doctors and patients are unaware of this growing problem.
"Why would someone think they're allergic to meat when they've been eating it their whole life?" Dr. Erin McGintee told CBS News. She's an allergist who has reportedly seen 200 cases of this type of red meat allergy among people on New York's Long Island.
Lone Star ticks carry a sugar called alpha-gal, which is also found in red meat, but not in people. Normally, alpha-gal in meat poses no problems for people. But when a Lone Star tick bites a person, it transfers alpha-gal into the bloodstream.
As a result, the person's body produces antibodies to fight the sugar. The next time that person eats red meat, their immune system responds to the alpha-gal in the meat and they suffer an allergic reaction that can include itching, burning, hives and even throat swelling, CBS News reported.
In cases of mild allergic reactions, the symptoms can be treated with antihistamines, but severe allergic reactions (anaphylactic shock) require epinephrine. Some people with the red meat allergy carry EpiPens that deliver a shot of epinephrine.
Most allergic reactions to foods occur almost immediately, but red meat allergic reactions can occur up to eight hours after a person eats meat, CBS News reported.
It's not yet known if red meat allergy is permanent. While some people show indications of recovery, others do not.
I work at an elephant sanctuary and a big cat sanctuary in Southern Tennessee and Northern Alabama. Outside almost 24/7, in the woods, cleaning up animal shit...so yeah, lots of ticks. haha. The only real worry is Lime Disease, but those type of ticks aren't very common where I live in the lower Appalachian foothills. The worst ones are the seed ticks...little bitty fuckers that you can barely see. I stepped in a nest one day, had thousands of them on my lower legs. Drove me nuts for three days...just kept feeling shit crawl on me.
edit: @the post above, that is a nightmare of mine. >.>
Ticks always creep me out. Had one try to burrow in me when I was visiting my grandfather in Tennessee. Creepiest picture I ever saw though was a reptile rescue where a snake was covered in thousands of ticks and they had to sedate it so they could pull them all out. Think it was actually posted on here in the RIT a couple years ago. Also fuck that red meat reaction. If that ever happened to me i'd ask them to put a bullet in me as a life without red meat is not a life worth living lol.
I'm surprised the beef/burger industry hasn't put forth a screwfly solution for those ticks.
Ah, here we go
You just need to make it through a number of shitty years.Unlike most food allergies, the alpha-gal allergy will recede with time, as long as the person is not bitten by another tick. The recovery period can take anywhere from eight months to five years.
Add +1 to gay guys hitting on me @.@
I told him he has a better chance of speaking to Jesus. He said "I speak to Jesus every day" and I replied "Well go suck his dick then"
Convo pretty much ended there
Brah, just break down and fuck a guy sometime. Could be fun.
Report back to me with your findings after you do.
If you think it's a good idea, go for it yourself lol
It is a good idea, but I might be a little biased.
My random fail: while working on homework, my laptop decided it would like to shutdown at random. Now it will no longer start up in MacOS X, but will start in the Windows partition. Too bad that half has nothing at all useful on it for my programming homework.
Dropbox is great.
Do you have an external HD you can put a bootable image on? You could start up that way in osx to access the information in the osx partition on your primary HD. That would allow you to fix it or at least access your hw.
My random fail is my Nikon D7000 after 4 years doesn't meter at all with flash and it is over exposing with no flash.no money for a new camera body.
Luckily, I installed Windows on it and was, surprisingly, able to boot into that without trouble. Got the homework copied off, and merged back into the normal code repository. I should be able to get what little is on there off (really, it's a glorified internet machine with copies of my Mercurial repos for homework) that way. If not, oh well. At the very worst, I could pull the HD out and use some tools I have to hook it up to another computer like an external. Ran fsck in single user mode, it failed to rebuild the btree three times.
A new hard drive is on its way.
Find out I need a root canal for a tooth that became absessed as a result of a cavity 14 years ago (which can't be done for another week and a half) and LCD screen on my work phone decides to crack and bleed out to the point of being unreadable this morning. All of this before leaving the country in the morning for 4 days.
Ahh gotcha, I'm a draftsman at a surveying company. I love laughing at the poor souls who come in covered in ticks and leeches. They're perfectly fine picking them off each other like baboons or some shit.
When's your birthday Noble, I just saw this on reddit for you. http://imgur.com/a/bq2U8
