Random Fail: First World Problems

I interned at a news station one summer for the 10 PM news. The script for the show was always printed out. I understand this, it's an important last second teleprompter-broke-but-show-must-go-on-NOW saftey measure. However, we didn't just print two copies for the anchors, no. A copy for every single person working on the show. Anchors, director, producer, camera operators, weatherman, sports guy. Was basically a ream and a half every night.

Don't ever work in a fucking hotel if you care about the environment. Every few hours we are printing reports and shit - at the one I worked at and only had about 244 rooms and our room occupancy reports ran about 40 pages. Every few hours we had to go through this shit and have one on hand in case of emergency so we could account for the occupancy of each room. Countless other reports as well that just get tossed..it is insane.

We have computers for things like this. I know things like that tend to get implemented and then never changed for more than a decade...but really? Do they HAVE to be printed out?

Basically if the hotel were to go up in flames or whatever a hard copy was required. I know it sounds idiotic and I agree with you..trust me I did not enjoy dealing with the reports myself. However I was tained you basically have it on hand at all times and the few times we did evacuate ( due to false alarms) my manager had it and it's part of the procedure and protocol.

We may have computer systems and way too many fucking programs at that but it's necessary to have everything printed out for housekeeping purposes ( special requests,allergy free rooms , etc) , for our room assignments for elite guests among other pre-blocking needs. Anyone who said working the front desk at a hotel would be fun can fucking die in a fire. I LOVED my job but some people just pissed me off.

Was snowboarding on Wednesday and some kid with me got leg cramps. I was telling to drink water and yadda yadda.

Went up again today and cramped first run and almost ruined my day.

Driving down i-5 to Disneyland and the fog has been so thick on some stretches I'm barely doing 55 on it.

Yesterday, the shared desktop in the control room at work was sequestered and sent back to company HQ for an undisclosed reason.

For the next couple of weeks the six of us who use it get to wonder what the hell is going on, and which of us is likely to be getting fired.

On top of that, we're using a temporary loaner laptop, which of course has none of our saved files or bookmarks, making it an incredible pain in the ass to complete simple tasks.

Whee.

If I'm out around sun-up, it can be freaky as hell because there are some full out fuckin' Silent Hill days at times.

I am trying to create a disk image of my current laptop so I can migrate to a new better laptop and it keeps hanging. Usually this is so simple! Why won't it just work so I can move to the new laptop.

Another very much first world problem. Work wants to get me an ipad but we only buy refurbished to save money. Ever since I found out that I was going to get a work ipad the store has been out of refurbished ipad airs they have only had the much older models in stock.
