Obviously, but not many of them are any more beneficial for me long-term, and I want some goddamn Legos. And I did keep it under 1k.
Hmm. Ok, 8 Years of suffering and 1,000$ worth of Legos.
Assuming saving 40$ a paycheck, getting paid biweekly - 25 pay periods, or a little less than a year for 1K of Legos.
So 1k = 1 year of suffering. You got paid 13. Look at it that way.
If you build a full size working Lego car I'm pretty sure everyone here will take back everything negative we've said!
wait
still have 10k? buy-in No Limit Hold 'Em, win, happily forfeit this measly gov't money
i'll go win for you and only require 60%
man, this should've been a thread -- BG, Help me spend 15 grand; peoples would've had glorious suggestions
Legos are solid choice too, i s'pose
i'd read that thread
Fuck that, I'd say first 15 people to send a PM with an address get 1k.
I'd totally say "fuck it" to online security in that case.
Im jealous of that. Ive only gotten 700 a month from disiability here. Fucking13k...lord id buy vacation trips for a year too. Hawaii, vegas, ect. And magic cards, lots of em
Just thought I'd let you know that you're my hero.
Always loved and always will love Lego's. The small children in my house prevents me from having Lego's or anything similar in size due to the (logical) beating my wife will give me if a) some are swallowed, and b) if she steps on a sharp one. Goddamn I envy you, sir.
So we are 3 days away from Urban Shield starting in the bay area. Yesterday we received about 100 tablets for the event. After spending the better part of 2 work days dealing with all sorts of different companies tech support I'm ready to burn these fucking pieces of shit. Motorola and Samsung have various levels of retardery with the Droid OS where the only way I can get shortcuts to the PDF files the different teams need is to download a file manager and a file widget utility. To add insult to injury, outside of what OT has already been promised, the OT budget has been blown to shit so all I'm getting for this is comp time after Urban Shield. I'm going to have nightmares tonight of the Galaxy Tab startup tone tonight![]()
It sounds better than it is. I JUST got on disability in the last few months, and just cashed my first check (Second, if you count the lump sum). I get $349/mo, minus $99 for Medicare (Which I'm applying to have reduced). I'm also applying for SSI, as I said, which will probably be around the same amount. In total, I'll probably be getting about $700. The 13k was the accumulated back-pay I'm owed, since I could have been collecting disability for the last ~6 years or so. It would be even more money if they actually counted all that time, but it only goes back like a year, maybe two. I don't recall off hand. I only get it once. You can be jealous of my health, though. It's not great, but I've improved enough to where it's tolerable. It's hard to really compare the different types of struggles you and I have had, but any time I read through your blog I feel like you got worse than I did.
I wouldn't compare chrons to bad indigestion. Anything that causes extreme, random pain has the potential to be life wrecking at worst, very inconvenient at best.
Boil some water. Pour it in a glass. Take some laxatives, drink the (still boiling) water, and eat the glass (Chew it up real nice). Next time you go poop, imagine doing that 10-20 times a day for the rest of your life. Congratulations, now you can imagine what it's like to have Crohn's.
But calling it indigestion is fine too.
Edit: Oh and don't forget to run a marathon first to wear yourself out. Fatigue is a bitch. For hardmode, run the marathon afterwards.
Edit2: Like I said, though, it's difficult to try to compare them (Unless I missed a whole new level of suck, Myrrh's got Cystic Fibrosis, not cancer). There's some overlap, in the general pain and misery sense (and in that they're both chronic illnesses), but they're just too different to really compare. Plus, I don't really know what all CF entails, so I'm just going off what's in Myrrh's blog. This applies for a lot of diseases/conditions/whatever. Unless they're in the same category you really just can't compare them. Myrrh's a lung dude, I'm a bowel dude. Neither of us would really be able to compare our cases to a paraplegic, or someone with cancer, or someone with Cerebral Palsy (Which I do have experience with- my oldest friend has it: he's a musculo-skeletal dude), aside from the general "Yeah man, I know how it feels to have a wall of suck fall on you." Just look at the surgeries involved with the 3 specific examples I know of: My own resection (Cut out a ~10 inch chunk of my intestines), Myrrh's lung transplant, and my friend's.. fuck, I don't know what it's called, but they put metal rods in his spine. Which he promptly broke. They had to put new ones in. Anyway, completely different.
Maybe I really should have made my own thread, lol. Kinda hijacked a few pages of the FWP thread. Oh well, too late now. Unless a mod wants to separate it out.
I had both these at the same time and it wasn't that bad. Sometimes it seemed like was harder for my family to deal with rather than myself.
I recovered from both though and for the most part you can't tell that I ever had them. One thing that pissed me off though was that it happened 3 months after I turned 19 and the cut-off for make a wish was 18.
I know what you mean about families having it even rougher. My mom took my surgery WAAAAAY harder than I did. She started getting all helicoptery, which got on my nerves, and any time I tried to get her to back off, it only made her mad. Was a rough patch. For me, it was just kinda... what I had to do. I mean, it was scary and a big deal, but I didn't get all worked up about it. It was really my only choice, so either it was going to be okay or it wasn't. If it hadn't turned out okay, well, I'd said what needed saying to my closest friends, told my parents I loved them. And if the surgery itself went fine but had failed to help, I'd have had other safety nets to keep me alive. They would be even less pleasant than the surgery was, but if that had been the way things worked out, it would have been just another thing that I needed to do. Just gotta roll with the punches, i guess. idk, hard to explain the feeling.
That sucks about the timing, too. Always seems like shit hits the fan at just the wrong time.
Got a minor verbal warning at work today. Apparently I said something "inappropiate". In fact I've been pretty quiet this week, and the only thing I could think of is that I said (literally) the "N-Word" in a conversation. I can't imagine what else I would've said that's flagged as inappropiate. Even my manager can't imagined what I would've said (and we're pretty much together all the time) and he noticed I was rather quiet this week.
It went something like this:
We were discussing about food/ingredients. Something cropped up, and I spoke up and said "I forgot what that's called. It's a N-word!" The group around me laughed thinking I literally meant the "N-word". I then shot back "What, I can't say it like that now? What if I wanted to say C-word or F-word? It doesn't necessarily mean that!"
I think, along the lines of this, where I didn't actually say anything, someone near us on the floor took it offensively and reported me lol.
I'm told to possibly relocate where I am sitting to cool it off haha
People with narrow minds suck. And surely if he/she reported me for that they were probably more racist themselves than I possibly ever would be if they thought of that in the first instance and had to report me because they got offended.
(Plus, because we work in IT, if someone calls us a nerd, I generally shoot back at them "Oi! We don't use the N-word around here!")
Oh well. Disadvantages of being on the same floor as the client.
I'm on the hunt on who has reported me. If it's that same guy who has reported other people (who's a camp gay) I'm going to start labelling him hetrophobic. That guy that sits slightly in our radius sometimes and I noticed whenever he is there he reports someone for something. And we're all guys around there. I'm sure he just doesn't like us being "manly" or something.![]()
