This whole thing was so fucking stupid this time, like this other professor kept coming into our classroom and arguing with our professor, even when our dude showed him the e-mails from the school authorizing him to use this room. But for some really fucking stupid reason, this other dude won and we had to move, to a room of equal size that was literally ten feet away from the room we were already in. Like, I literally do not understand for even one second why in the fuck it mattered what fucking classroom we were using if they were the same size and had the same amount of seats in it, in the same building and on the same floor and down the same fucking hallway, no less. Like seriously this guy made a big deal out of a classroom because he fucking could and that was literally the only reason.
If that isn't some fucking bullshit, I just don't know. I'm so confused why it even fucking mattered. What a douche.
academia
Pretty much. "I have a PhD and you're only working on your dissertation so gtfo of my totally identical classroom pleb."
When someone calls me an asshole I think of people like that and then to myself "you know there are real assholes out there not just rude sarcastic people who say things you don't like"
^ This also made my night.
This made me lol way more than it should (just picturing my own profs doing this probably).
My random fail for the day is volunteering to work the "late" shift with my boss (till 6pm) a few weeks ago. Today they debuted this new "queue" system. My boss tells me that if there's any priority tickets in the queue at 6, we have to stay and work on them. Now I can't figure out how to un-volunteer.I don't mind working till 6 (prefer it really, as my classes start at 7pm), but I don't want to be stuck there till 630 or 7 or midnight or whatever on non-class nights because the rest of my office bails at 5pm sharp. Ughhh.
There isn't any withdrawing your nomination. You just have to rework your "availability" and let them know.
Companies like this (and I don't even know anything about your employer, but tickets sounds like food to me and that sucks) generally don't give a shit about your work for them or give you anything as a reward for it. Therefore it is best to ignore the many false promises "managers" hand down to you from the ones that generally hand them down to them first, and never volunteer.
Anything involving hospitality or customer service is generally a death sentence.
The only people you can win brownie points with that you can actually make use of are coworkers who are not management.
I'm also the new guy, so I'm trying to avoid the appearance of "bitching" about stuff. I really don't mind working till 6, or even later, sometimes. They're extremely flexible, don't count sick days (kid sick? no problem, see you tomorrow), and have been extremely accommodating so far. In retrospect, I think it's more "every now and then if there's something in here that looks like a real emergency, do something about it", not "every monday, wed, and fri, I want this queue completely empty when you leave, even if it takes all night". It's just when he originally said it, my thoughts immediately jumped to "yeahhhh I'm gonna need you to come in tomorrow.... and .... sunday too".
While you are the new guy and they are very accommodating, make sure to establish limits if it looks like they are trying to roll over you. It's easy to avoid looking like you're bitching, just explain your worries to your boss. He sounds very reasonable and if you approach it calmly I think it'll work out.
I accepted overtime while half asleep and didn't remember it.
Only showed up 2 hours late.
Here I am on hold with Dell Sonic Wall for 43:15 minutes now...
Don't let that fool you, the first 30 seconds is a message basically telling me to go look shit up because that's what the people who answer do. Then it was 5 minutes of Habibamendenjiad going "ummm who do I transfer you too........hmmm.... how do I do this.... hmmmm <silence>"
Last time this happened I fell asleep to the jazz music on the phone and luckily the person finally picking up was enough to wake me.
Finally just gave in and pressed 1 to have them call me back. Suck ass I swear.
EDIT:I am a patient and I'd like to think emotionally solid person along with that. I called back when they emailed me a completely unrelated knowledge article on firewalls which I never said a word about and wasn't remotely related. After 1:30:00 on HOLD, I took the phone and began slamming it against the receiver until it finally hung up. Fuck that!
Jesus fucking christ some people are braindead. So the county's IT Division maintains our VPN network and we get a monthly charge per license we have for VPN access. I just got done doing a big order of 30 licenses as I have one department needing 23, and was told by another department they need 5. I've made it very clear that VPN is by user, not by computer as each license gets assigned to an employee's AD account. Just email the supervisor of the 5 and now all of a sudden it's 9 people for 5 laptops. /headdesk Whoever said working for the county is feet on the desk easy has never had to deal with IT bullshit.
I am working in a different office today because I am working transferring us from an older server to a new server machine. As soon as I get into the office wifi goes down and our voip phone system stops working. ugh.
Sitting here drunk doing salvage on mules and wondering where my personal restraint is in telling people they should take a long walk off a short pier. I mean everyone is doing stuff related to the update because its day 0 on FFXI.
So if someone is doing something basic like augmenting a cape with a crystal and someone can't read ah.com, these forums, the update notes, etc and is completely lost I just want to tell them to log off. I mean I put hours upon hours into bgwiki to help people, and these people can't even read a fortune cookie let alone a wiki or update notes and then wanna know whats up. *sigh* oh the humanity
For your own sanity, don't ever play WoW.
BG has a wiki?
