Random Fail: First World Problems

Bad week for fails lol; make an appointment to remove studded winter tires since its been all melted and dry for quite awhile. (They damage pavement so I didn't want to persist.)

Bunch of freak snowstorms this week and housemate slides on ice going too fast, slids my car into the curb hard, damaging the front steel rims.

I currently do a really hard experiment at work. It takes 12 hours on a good day, 16 hours on a mediore/bad day, or 10 hours on a terrible day. The schedule is approximately:

1) Do some necessary day-of preparations (30min-1hr)
2) Do microsurgery (2 hours)
3) Move the dissection to a recording setup and finish it there (1 hour)
4) Prepare for recording / let it warm up (1 hour - This is when I eat lunch)
5) Record (3 hours good day, 5 hours mediocre/bad day, 3 hours terrible day)
6) Remove part of the dissection and dissociate it onto a plate (1 hour)
7) Culture it for an hour and prepare for pickup (1 hour - this is also when I eat dinner)
8) Pick up the cells I recorded from (1-2 hours)
9) If I'm doing it again the next day, do night-before preparation stuff for the next day (1-2 hours)

For the last two weeks, it wasn't working at all. Come in, do my terrible day, leave disappointed after 10 hours of painstakingly tedious crap.

Today, my prep worked great and I filled 5 cells, 3 of which were exactly the type of cells I was looking for. So I get through the process, plate my cells, do all that crap. Take the plates off to my cell pickup microscope and . . . I sneeze while I'm holding them and the little bubble of fluid with my cells in it tips over and spreads out over the slide. I tried to salvage the plates, but the damage was done. I only got back one of my cells and it was one of the ones we don't care about. If I had gotten back all the cells I labeled it wouldn't have even been a random win at this point because I was so fucking due for a break. I have been doing this experiment an average of 4 times a week since January and I have collected 13 cells that we really care about. There are just so many places to fuck it up.

Random fail #3 of the day: SE has mismanaged FFXI into the ground over the last decade despite a devoted / slightly fanatical fanbase. Regardless, I still play the game mostly because it's the game that (some of) my friends (from FFXI) play. I am the linkshell holder of one of the two NA linkshells on my server that is doing the most recently introduced endgame event. This event, for whatever reason, encourages you to bring along 18 players. Forutnately, my linkshell has 23 characters (15 real, 8 mules) online right now (out of 421 characters), so we're able to do current content. Some of our members pull double duty in the other shell too, or our server probably wouldn't be able to sustain two NA groups doing the event.

Unfortunately, SE has decided to go hard with banning for random shit that they spent years not caring about, so now we're down two guys (a multi-RME DD and a RME BRD), one of which is probably permanent (DD). More than half of the linkshell has received a 72 hour ban in the last 6 months and we've had at least two permas. I mean, what the fuck? You're stopping updates in November and now is the time to ban people for flee hacking to 160%? Did you guys even pay attention when NNI was happening or people were creating items/gil out of nothing and headshotting the economy? Christ. Now that you've introduced 18-man content, you have to ban the friends I have left here?

More than half of the linkshell has received a 72 hour ban in the last 6 months and we've had at least two permas. I mean, what the fuck? You're stopping updates in November and now is the time to ban people for flee hacking to 160%? Did you guys even pay attention when NNI was happening or people were creating items/gil out of nothing and headshotting the economy? Christ. Now that you've introduced 18-man content, you have to ban the friends I have left here?

The banning is BS, but you can't really blame them for enforcing the rules now even if it is stupid. It is both a positive and negative thing.

They're super retarded to ban anyone at this point, least of all people who have been subscribed continuously for more than a decade and get caught for a minor offense like flee hacking. What is the fucking point? They're throwing away $50 and making the game even worse so some GM can get a stiffy.

I'm waiting for the content scaling. I'm surprised they didnt introduce it from the get go. My LS has literally 4 full timers who all 3 box, a part timer who is rarely on, and 2 other part timers that are generally only on at the dead of night.

Did any of these people get suspensions/bans after the doomsday presentation though? All of the ban threads on here and AH have basically gone silent since then.

I just came back to the game as well, but because I've been gone so long / have little investment / need to catch up I pretty much run everywhere invis at 300% straight through mountains.

I don't expect to last long, but we'll see. Seems a lot of the people in the LS do the same.

Bought someone a $50 gift card for their birthday, went to their work to give it to them as I had no other time to.


Seems a guest found the card inside the server bin, opened it, and took the gift card before she had a chance. So I get to go back to the store tomorrow at 10am to have the old card voided, hopefully.
