The most amusing part about reading this statement is that I once worked at a movie theater behind the concessions stand taking credit cards. We were never told anything like this about cards.
Also it took me several months to get why people were putting "CID" in their signature block.
"Why are these people putting the name Cid on their cards? That's not their name." Finally got it once I saw a few that actually spelled out "See". C(See).I.D. Ohhhhhhhhh. Never checked ID or signatures anyway, and nobody cared.
Bonus stupidity: I still haven't signed my new card that I've been using for 2+ months now. Nobody gives a shit. The only people who have checked ID is Gamestop, who always checks ID regardless. Does Gamestop have some kind of exception to your statement though? They ALWAYS check your ID.
A lot of it comes down to training, and training on cards is one of the last things on peoples minds. As a result the front line people actually manning the registers get shown how to run a card, but not what they are "supposed" to do to verify it's authenticity. This leads to them using common sense and asking for ID.
As for Gamestop, and I can tell you from personal experience as a Gamestop manager, they are shit awful at training. There is no set corporate training policy, or if there is then it's widely ignored. Most training consists of shadowing someone for maybe half a shift and then throwing them to the wolves customers.
They do not have an exception because Visa/MasterCard/Etc don't need any given merchant, the merchants need them. This is especially true now that other methods of payment (checks) are becoming more inconvenient or just not used as much anymore (cash). If any of these merchants wanted to try and amend the Card Acquirer Agreement then they would get told "Lolno!" This also comes from personal experience working from the other end of the card equation at a Credit Union and working directly with Visa.
Sorry to bore you all with Debit/Credit card talk, there's just so much fail around them that it's mind boggling.
Had to put my dog of 12 years down today. His cancer spread to the point he was eating at his own legs in annoyance despite meds we had him on.
I then come out of the vet to a flat tire. Universe can go fuck itself now.
i know those feels, man. im sorry. sounds like you did the right thing by him, though.
His was in the sinus, possibly the brain (first, if it had eaten through the skull). The initial diagnosis was kind of fuzzy since we had taken him in for nose bleeds. The exploratory surgery they initially wanted to do would've cost $2500 and a drive to Columbus, which was basically out of the question for us financially. The x-rays they sent to a specialist said it was very likely cancer and at that point he had maybe 6 months or so. We were just shy of 5, and honestly, I was expecting today to just be some new pills and maybe an ointment or something. But as they got him on his back and looking more at his underside and inner flanks, well... it became decision time. Given he was chewing himself bloody at points and some spots beginning to look infected or even necrotic, sucks as it was to confirm, he couldn't really express if he was suffering or not even if he was his usual self, minus just being slower with stuff.
They always compare my game stop credit card to my ID. Even though all o the employee s know me
ID is only required for the Gamestop credit card itself if you have the temp shopping pass, ie before you get the physical card. once you get the real card, it's the same as any other card.
And of course today...got o a different fucking post office , they just ask for my ID to check , thank me and let me go on my merry fucking way. No fucking posted policy and this one is in a "worse" area where fraud has been reported more often.
Get your fucking shit straight fucking idiots..
My modem is officially toast. All day, it has been rebooting itself. I'll go about an hour (if I'm lucky) with no reboots, then it reboots itself in quick succession. I have a tech coming out tomorrow morning to replace it but since I've been dealing with this all day today, that feels like an endless period of time to wait. I managed to submit the only assignment I had due tonight, but the rest of my day has just been beyond frustrating to deal with.
I'd rather have slow internet than internet that keeps going out every thirty seconds. I counted 11 times in a 15 minute time period when it went down, and there's literally nothing I can do about it. If it's not fixed tomorrow after they replace the box, I'm going to probably going to throw things. Explosive things.
Yeah, I don't do well without internet. :/
Fever is breaking, sunburn still makes me look like a leper. I've used an amazing amount of aloe.
Chef friend is flying into JFK May 22 coming back from a wedding or something. She asked that we get reservations at Bohemian in NYC.
"No problem," I think, "I'm on their list I'll just give them a call."
Guy won't take reservations more than a month out. I have a good feeling that they will be booked solid when I call back on April 22 because that weekend in May is Memorial Day weekend.
Roll into work @ 5:30am PDT. Homeless guy with a truck (a pick up that you'd typically see a mantience worker or handyman use but is filled with trash) is half blocking the driveway into the facility. So tempted to honk at his bumper for a full minute but think better since it is a shady neighborhood and who knows if he has a gun.
On that note, continuious FWP for my coworkers... no parking spots in the facility with a waitlist of 3 years+ for an assigned parking spot; half the street is assigned for street cleaning yesterday and today between 8-10am with $75+ fines for a violation. Coworkers circle the block for 10+ minutes off the clock trying to find parking, though many have started clocking in since this situation is BS. Few have even gone to HR and demand they pay the parking fine, one even going as far as demanding the company pay for car damage when someone hit and run their car one morning a few years back.
I remember this one time I couldn't get tickets, but it was like everyday.
It's snowing.
