Apparently there are certain people who take great umbrage if someone says "Happy Memorial Day". The retardness on my FB this weekend is great.

Memorial Day isn't meant to be happy. It's meant to be a day of remembrance for the fallen. The same reason I get annoyed when people try to wish me a happy Memorial Day, because although I served, I didn't die in the line of duty. It's not meant for me - I have my day, in November, and it's called Veterans Day.

I mean I get this is MURICA and it's time for barbecues and getting drunk but the reason we have Memorial Day to remember the fallen. It was never meant to be a day of celebration or festivities.

lol I don't think you were around (on bg; I know you were on xiah) when my uncle had his mid life crisis. I basically did one of my years in college living in a house with no utilities. Uncle packed up his shit and left. Foreclosures take forever in FL so I just stayed in the house. He came back like a year later and started paying shit again.

Didn't see my cousin once during that time lol. (Nor anyone else lol). I don't ask people for shit. I had to study under street lights. Had a lot of friends I could have asked for a place to stay, but didn't want to impose. That said, tough shit as far as my cousin is concerned.

Yea lol that shit left me with a bitter taste for family.

Especially w/ my grandma, lol. My brother, uncle, and mom ask her for money all the time. Even when I was living in that house like that, I never asked her for a dime. About a year ago someone used her credit card to buy a laptop. Instead of "Do you know what might have happened with my card?" I got, "Omg, I can't believe you'd do this to me. I trusted you. Now my credit is bad" cut her off there and was like "We're not having this conversation" hung up and aside from really short small talk, I haven't really talked to her since.

I'm fully aware of the difference between the holidays (I think most Americans are) and I don't see it as a big deal at all. The sentiment is there. A person might as well be wishing you a good weekend. It's someone trying to be friendly. It all reminds me of people who get bent out of shape during the holidays when you accidentally say Merry Christmas to a Jewish person who is actually celebrating Hanukah or an atheist celebrating nothing in particular.

I get it, I just personally don't like it when someone wishes me that, and if it's someone I know, I'll tell them why. If it's a total stranger I'll just be like "you too" and roll my eyes when they can't see me lol. No need to be a dick to strangers.

Most people would acknowledge it as recognition for the sacrifices you have made in order to serve the nation as a whole. It's also to recognize the members of the military that lost their lives. Roll your eyes if you must but most people are saying it as a thank you if they know you served. You don't have to like it. But recognize that someone is trying in a round about way to say thank you. And you wonder why you don't have friends lol.

Am I the only one who thinks of "happy memorial day" as happy memories to the fallen? That these 'excuses to drink, BBQ, party, etc' are people merely enjoying the freedom these soldiers protect? I certainly hope not :l

If you were a soldier there is no reason to roll your eyes at the prospect because you apparently think it should be a sad day or something since happy isn't acceptable. Quit being overly sensitive, its silly.

Have a diet that is going until June 11th. Decided I needed a cheat day.

Right now, I'm doing 1,500 cals/day until my deadline. 600 of my cals today were from junk, so while I still hit 1500 on the dot, unless those little debbie are giving me a lot of energy, lol today is going to be interesting. At least I don't have to lift today and only have cardio (although I am doing a double)
