You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I hear ya melena. I have been a slacker on getting a new pair since getting vision insurance again. Baby has almost broken my current ones. These are technically my "spare" as in I used to wear contacts, but when I got preggo I stopped since I was napping so much. Never thought I'd need a back up for my back up. I should probably get into wearing contacts again....

Anyway, random fail today, bought on friday like $200 worth of software from fry's because they were all free with mail-in rebates.

Sit down to deal with the rebate madness (cut barcodes/scan receipts and manual covers etc. etc.) Go to scan a manual cover...paper jam! paper is inside the printer so I can't find it, and the printer makes this loud ass noise when turning it on...fml

A colleague's SUV broke down this morning so I offered to let him borrow my truck since I have 2 vehicles. One the way to the shop following him there, my truck started making a horrible metal-on-metal banging when accelerating. I thought I broke a motor mount or transmission mount. Then all hell broke loose when my drive shaft u-joint fell apart pulling into the dealership. I left a huge gouge in their concrete at the entrance and had to replace the u-joint in their parking lot. They did not like having me there fixing it after refusing to pay for them to fix it. Now my colleague won't drive my truck cause he is scared of it breaking again. Why won't anyone take risks anymore?

Unfortunately that "tiny" bit of blur causes me headaches when working at a computer, which being my career is in I.T. is all the fucking time. The doctor was actually surprised it came out as well as it did based off of my last exam. My right eye just learned to compensate for my left. Trust me, I'd love to go glasses free but come my next dmv license renewal, they are going to be a requirement for me sadly

I highly recommend Laser Eye Surgery. $2700 2.5 years ago, fucking amazing. Easily the best money I've ever spent on anything.

Can't you just pick up a pair of reading glasses at Wal Mart? I know that when I happen to snoop through the reading glasses selection they don't have anything that comes close to my own vision deficiencies, but for vision loss like yours you could probably pick up a pair (or two, and swap the lenses if necessary) for pretty cheap until you get back in on the vision plan.

I actually tried that before when my glasses got busted in a mass melee at EA (different fwp for another day) and i wound up with a migraine to beat all migraines after like an hour. As is, in 5-7 days i'll have new glasses and as a worst case if they suck I have vision on the first and can get another pair then. I more blame my union for taking almost two years after they negotiated a vision plan for management to realize that the rest of us would like eye care as well and got it into our new contract.

The icing on the cake for my poor colleague; His battery went shithouse this morning and fried something. Even with a new battery nothing worked. Poor guy just put $1000 into it yesterday just to have it towed back to the shop this morning.

A visit over to my old folks house. Woke up, saw some of the ihop pancakes I bought were missing. Saw pops and asked "oh hey, did you eat some of it?" and he replies "yea, was pretty good."

Later on mother comes to me and hands me some money saying "you shouldn't say that to your father, go buy some more for yourself" and suddenly I'm going in my head "wait, wtf did I say wrong?"

Maybe this is why I don't talk to the folks much, they have almost always made a big deal with me "talking" to my elders (despite there being no negative connotation anyway whatsoever when I asked him the question, it was more for fun/curiosity). Has always been this way since I was young, and was pretty much taught never to speak in any way that even hints at being rude... despite me never being rude at all in the first place!

Can't even crack a joke either unless I want them to take it the wrong way, every time. Fucking asian people.

I hate when being racist gives me the correct assumptions. Oh well, I guess they're called stereotypes for a reason.

The one where you would ever even refer to your parents as elders.

Showing so much respect to those that are older than you, often to the point that it's excessive and undeserved is an asian stereotype.

It was your parents, not you, that I was stereotyping. The whole parents are always right and etc stuff that's just so out of touch with reality.

I guess I could say older folks? It really is all the same. It just really grates ob my nerves. It's not like I hate my parents; I love them just like any child would love theirs cause they raised, gave you clothes, food, shelter... all that jazz. But I absolutely deplore having to sound like a subservient little speck of dust when I have to address ones older than me.

I could be 40 years old, and I would still have to address anyone older than me in a pretty damn sincere fashion; there is almost no equal grounds just because you are now grown up/an adult... that is, unless you're fortunate to meet someone who is more americanized or was raised outside asia.

But ok, rant off. I did went to buy more ihop pancakes and shared some with my old man since he seemed to like them.

EDIT: Oh ok, I saw you quoted that and I thought "wait, did he mean I'm racist towards my own people? I'm a bit confused!"

Haha, we're all a bit racist. Even though it's usually all in good fun, I've noticed I stereotype way too much. The problem is I keep being right.. so I can't tell myself to be less racist.

And while I use the word racist.. I'm not sure it carries the right connotation that I want to use.

My mom does that shit all the time and she's just as white as I am. Example: Mom: "Your check came in the mail" Me, not expecting a check in the mail: "What check?" as I'm getting up to go see. Mom freaks out because apparently that's disrespectful or some such bullshit.

Yea, given time to cool off I know that I'm stereotyping my own race to a big degree, since I know non-asian parents can be as strict about "talking back" and stuff. But while growing up and meeting/knowing roughly ~30ish vietnamese families compared to ~15 non-asian families, I have to say about 90% of those Vietnamese act just about the same as my parents, where the non-asian (friends family usually) I can be alot more talkative without being overreacted at. Anecdotal and all, but whatever.

    I blame confucius.

I'm not racist. I just hate everyone equally.

So lets lay it all down:

I stereotype a LOT. People say I'm racist. What happens is that I'm usually right too.

    Extremely recent example:
A guy at work is selling an iPhone 4s
I tell a guy on my team who's buying it to NOT buy it from him, with the following reasons:

    1. He's asian (in this case, muslim, but the type of muslim (yes, they can be stereotyped into this) that just loves flashy technology but doesn't know what the fuck to do with it. I DON'T CARE IF YOU GOT THE TOP OF THE LINE SONY LAPTOP TO PLAY SOLITAIRE IN OR TO WRITE YOUR BOOK IN MICROSOFT WORD JUST DON'T SHOW IT TO ME LIKE YOU'RE PROUD)
    2. They don't care
    3. They just want money
    4. They don't care (once money has been handed over)
    5. Something is usually wrong

So the guy buys the phone anyway.

    What we have here is:

    1. An iPhone that doesn't work with his sim card, because it's locked
    2. To unlock the phone, the original phone owner must call up. The guy selling the phone isn't the original owner. Turned out he brought the phone from someone else
    3. It will cost £30 to unlock -- the guys at the market down town or some 3rd party dealer are unable to unlock it
    4. He needs to wait 30 days for all this to process

People at work say "that's just racist"

I go: No, if you dealt with enough of them before it's quite easy to categorise. Look who's right here?

    ---

Likewise, don't buy your DVDs/Blu-Rays from chinese people either

    ---

Me personally I'm the jackie chan variety. except I don't know martial arts. But I'm a clever, snarky and humble/bumbly person.

(which translates to the nice funny chinese guy)

EDIT: I have a lot of fun at work. Partially why I keep getting into trouble. I point out all these stereotypical things people of certain races do and question why.

No one got the reference though when I walked into the office from lunch with half a watermelon in one hand and a box of 5 pieces of chicken (not KFC, some 3rd party stuff) on the other once.
