Random Fail: First World Problems

I'm not racist. I just hate everyone equally.

So lets lay it all down:

I stereotype a LOT. People say I'm racist. What happens is that I'm usually right too.

Extremely recent example:
A guy at work is selling an iPhone 4s
I tell a guy on my team who's buying it to NOT buy it from him, with the following reasons:

1. He's asian (in this case, muslim, but the type of muslim (yes, they can be stereotyped into this) that just loves flashy technology but doesn't know what the fuck to do with it. I DON'T CARE IF YOU GOT THE TOP OF THE LINE SONY LAPTOP TO PLAY SOLITAIRE IN OR TO WRITE YOUR BOOK IN MICROSOFT WORD JUST DON'T SHOW IT TO ME LIKE YOU'RE PROUD)
2. They don't care
3. They just want money
4. They don't care (once money has been handed over)
5. Something is usually wrong

So the guy buys the phone anyway.

What we have here is:

1. An iPhone that doesn't work with his sim card, because it's locked
2. To unlock the phone, the original phone owner must call up. The guy selling the phone isn't the original owner. Turned out he brought the phone from someone else
3. It will cost £30 to unlock -- the guys at the market down town or some 3rd party dealer are unable to unlock it
4. He needs to wait 30 days for all this to process

People at work say "that's just racist"

I go: No, if you dealt with enough of them before it's quite easy to categorise. Look who's right here?

So is there anything I can do to repair this? I mean, as odinsLaw said this stuff just stems from the truth, or a string of common behaviours noticed and picked up on by people outside of the group/race.

I'm not narrowmindedly hating anyone/anything here but if I start to detect and feel something is wrong depending on activity then yeh I will home in at that fact. With the phone case I detailed above, I knew this guy swaps technology wait too often for little to no reason other than a status symbol. I also knew beforehand the people he talks to look and act shady with a hint of lying, so I concluded therefore before anything else based on my own knowledge it would be a bad idea to try and buy a phone off him lol

Can I say I just have a very strong intuition and the ability to see people's downfalls/weaknesses based on a few minutes of conversation and observation? lol

EDIT: Just wanted to add, a personal weakness of mine is that I never stop thinking (or I think too much, and/or I try to anticipate people's moves. This stems from the fact I loved playing chess though). People tell me to think less but that just means I drop my guard down lol.

Well, in the UK specifically (and it's been like this ever since mobiles came out) I noticed the white people would care less about technology than an asian would. For whites it's "if it works, good!" ... for asians "what's the CPU RAM GPU SCREEN RES CAN I CONNECT MY TV TO IT".

Add to that, asians travel to and from UK more than your usual white person travelling out of the UK here. They bring back goods to sell/fool people with from their own countries. This adds a layer of possible counterfeit (and hence, untrustworthy) goods.

My cousins who work as stewardnesses (i think that's what they're called. they hand out food on the planes) on Cathay Pacific. That airline's hub is in Hong Kong (HK), and the UK route is the only flightpath to and from, so they have the the luxury of going to HK every 2-4 other day depending on schedule. When they first worked there, the amount of fake cloths, bags, shoes they bring back to sell on eBay/to friends was disgusting, eventually getting them into trouble via complaints. I'm not basing my stereotypical views based on this one incident, but you can't deny that usually someone not white would be dealing with technology/clothes.

We're talking very broadly here though. Of course you'll get the person who just loves their technology regardless of race. Also this behaviour and attitude in general might be different elsewhere e.g. America

Sorry if none of this makes sense, I tried to explain it as much as I could based on how I feel and view this subject lol. I am aware and understand there are genuine people out there. But you can't really trust anyone these days

The buyer should have researched this issue more. Carrier locked phones are extremely common, I would even go out on a limb to say that they are the majority. It's not the seller's responsibility to research every potential buyer's phone carrier.

Haha, we're all a bit racist. Even though it's usually all in good fun, I've noticed I stereotype way too much. The problem is I keep being right.. so I can't tell myself to be less racist.

And while I use the word racist.. I'm not sure it carries the right connotation that I want to use.
