Nah. The fail would have been letting your in-laws dictate how you and the hubby raise your family. You didn't. The fail on their part is not knowing their place and shutting the fuck up.

Sick kids are going to eat what/when they feel like it, and not before. in-laws can get fucked, unless there is something you're doing to endanger the child their opinion really doesn't mean shit.
You will be much better off about anywhere else.

People think that kids are going to starve way faster than they actually will. There is an incredible amount of energy in just plain bread and it will take a long time before malnutrition becomes an issue. When a kid is sick energy is important and getting them to eat at all is a triumph.
It is just so unbelievably frustrating the way our life has gone. I worked my ass off like crazy when I had that long term sub position. I barely had time for my kids at all. When my husband worked he was doing like 60+ hours a week and only got to see the kids on weekends. Now, I am technically just on vacation. Vacation from a crappy paying job, (day to day sub) but a vacation nonetheless. I want to spend it with my kids. My husband, while it off work, is also trying to make up for lost time. This doesn't mean we haven't been looking for jobs. We are. But it's all online n such. So I think part of the problem is they see us do all these fun activities with the kids and assume we are just being lazy and irresponsible.
I don't want to put it all on them, though. Part of it is simply they want they house to not change. We were four people coming in and now toys are taking up space. It is hard to change when your get older. They shouldn't have to change their lifestyle because of us.
With that said, my kids need a home. I cannot just let them not have a home over adult arguments. I should have found a way to make it work.
We are trying to look into affordable housing but that does nothing to solve short term issues as waitlists are one to two years. My mom wants us to move back to CT and have the upstairs of the house (can do dual family as there are 2 kitchens, 2 living rooms, etc.), but doing so would officially put the nail in the coffin of both our careers. We aleady have tickets to go there in August, so we will see. Friends have offered us to stay with them, but I don't think that can last until we got housing.
I want us to go camping for the weekend at least since it would be fun for the kids and cheaper than a hotel.
Trying to think of other options. I have to figure out what we are fucking doing with our lives. Preferably before we are eighty.
I tend to stop eating dairy when I get any kind of respiratory illness for some reason.
I have heard it is a myth, but I find it to be true, myself. So I avoid it.
I also had bad tastes in my mouth while eating.
My "wife tale" cure is to eat salsa (hotter the better). Seems to kill whatever is ailing me.
Can't exactly feed that to my kids, though, lol. (They wouldn't touch even the mild stuff.)
A lot of sinus infections cause food to taste off as well.
Astylla's email rage reminded me that we have people who write their entire emails, in the subject line, ALL CAPS! It's great seeing:
From: So&So
Subject: CAN I PLEASE HAVE JULY 16TH TO THE 23RD OFF BECAUSE MY KIDS ARE ON SUMMER VACATION AND MY HUSBAND HAS A WEEK OFF AND WE WOULD LIKE TO GO TO DISNEYLAND BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS IN AUGUST AND WE WON'T HAVE ANOTHER CHANCE UNTIL NEXT SUMMER.
Body:
As for Ksandra, we have a newborn and we live with grandparents. We have two more sets of grandparents in the same town. When they tell us stuff, we try to politely remind them that a lot has changed since any of them have raised a kid (30+ years), which is true. Hell, I was placed faced down since day one. That's changed. Nothing in the crib. We just watched her six-month video where she had bumpers, toys, blankets, bottle, and such.
And dairy while sick, blech. Dairy makes my spit thick when I'm healthy. It's just worse when sick.
Is she taking anti-biotics? That's a documented side-effect of a great many medications. I've been on some, encountered it. Would not blame her for not wanting to eat if that's what's happening. Makes everything taste like ass.
also, brill's right, that's on them. sure, it's not entirely their fault, but it's DEFINITELY not your fault. We like to think we have control over our lives, but we really don't. Shit happens.
Bacteria in your colon use the lactose readily and secrete compounds that increase mucus production.
A lot of bacteria can do this, so you should avoid dairy when sick in particular. It only helps bacteria grow better, producing more mucus (they eat your mucus too).
The dairy itself doesn't induce mucus production. That's just bullshit. It just depends on whether it's bacterial and whether it's the right one (hint: it's not your respiratory ones).
Milk is super gross. Only regular milk though. All other dairy products are a-okay in my book.
At work our purified water system in the building I work in is out of commission until a repair guy comes and fix it. Have to go across the parking lot to use another group's water system.
Enter the fail with a coworker.
Me: *Working on a laptop in the lab*
Coworker: Any chance you are getting any water from the other building today?
Me: Nope. Not until I need it.
C: Any chance you can get some water today?
Me: A bit busy today. You can get some if you need it.
C: But it's too heavy for me to carry.
Context for my facepalm. Male coworker needed maybe 4L of water. The idea of getting water for him is filling a full 20L container to the brim. That would weigh 44 pounds. He's too weak to lift it. The women in my group have no problem lifting that weight. Also he could have left the container full on a cart. Hell, the guy didn't even need to fill the container all the way if he only needed so little. Oh yea, in California so the extra water would have gone to waste eventually. Argh I have no idea why this guy is working in the science field when he has so little common sense. He's also a lazy fuck.
My mom said one of our neighbors complained about my son being too loud today. My wife told me this so I don't know the context of the comment or what time it was or anything specific about it. For reference he is 3 years old he is often loud. Loud is the default setting at that age it is what kids are when they are happy and it is what they are when they are sad. I get so anxious and defensive over shit like this and I don't know how to turn my brain off. It instantly pisses me off and simultaneously makes me feel super self conscious about my family and my life and every little thing.
Suddenly I am freaking out thinking now we are going to have to move and other ridiculous scenarios are running through my head. Why do I freak out so bad about stupid shit like this. It makes my stomach hurt and makes my head swim. I don't understand how it can make me feel so anxious about my family while simultaneously making me feel so pissed off at whomever complained.
He isn't loud at night or anything he is just loud during the middle of the day when we are outside and he is running around. Help me BG! What do?
go to walmart and get yourself some boxing gloves
Not quite, but I'm not angry about it anyway; just annoyed.
I'm keeping my composure because I know my siblings are quite emotional, so I'm not blaming them. They are definitely having a harder time dealing with this unfortunate set of circumstances than I am, so I'm just trying to show them that everything is going to be okay.
Fortunately, she already is there. Apparently, the pain isn't too bad as of yet, but she's extremely week and can barely lift a telephone or speak. I honestly hope this won't take too long, as I really don't want her to suffer.
