I was told by 2 doctors that I cannot have lasik because they cannot correct my vision enough to remove the need for glasses. I even tried to tell them that I just want to be able to take them off when I am kayaking or skiing or anything else where they are easily lost or broken. No deal. Right now, without my glasses, I cannot see well enough to even see if there is a step up or down in front of me. Maybe if I keep shopping I will find the doctor who will do it.

That's common for a lot of Lasik patients. My mom worked for an eye doctor who did consults for Lasik, and at least 10 years ago, over 50% of all patients would still need glasses for a lot of daily activities after the Lasik.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

It's got to be a PR stunt for the show. They've been together for so long.

    We're lacking positive Lasik feedback.

Glasses and contacts since grade school. Lasik in 2012, good candidate, thick cornea, etc. 20/15 vision the next morning, no issues since and no more vision correction! (for now)

    Lasik is great.

    Then you turn 40.

Yea, good luck with reshaping your cornea when your eyes change again.

Dad had Lasik a few years ago. He still wears reading glasses but he's fine otherwise.

Had Lasik 3 years ago, went from always needing glasses to never needing them. Would recommend.

...but since we're here in the random fail thread, I got told I'd probably need eye drops forever so I went out and bought one of those bulk packs of 1000 individual eye droppers. Barely used 'em past the first couple months, what a waste of money.

The vitreous starts to diminish, which changed the refraction. Unless your package included lifetime adjustments your vision is just going to go back to shit.

I don't even know some of these words. How will this affect my perfect vision?

Another good reason not to get Lasik then, I'm 34. Having six years of perfect (or better) vision only to have to go back to the glasses life is not worth $4000.

I've had glasses/contacts since I was 8, not having to deal with that shit for a while would be worth it.

So have I, but $4000 is a lot of money for only six years.

Kuro is the resident medical knowledge dude around here, but you don't seriously think that your eyes just miraculously degenerate exactly at 40, do you? It's a gradual process. Granted, everything I've read is that the vision correction from LASIK is permanent, and the degeneration that Kuro is talking about is purely for very near vision (e.g. reading). Needing to have reading glasses when you're middle aged isn't that different from eventually needing bifocals on your glasses, or a separate pair. It's not like all the benefits of LASIK will vanish.

No, I don't think that they automatically just go to shit again once I hit a certain point. But I have weighed the fact that I can't get the drops in my eyes for them to even do the procedure (as mentioned in a previous post) and the fact that my eyes will degenerate sooner rather than later versus the cost and have decided, personally, that it's not worth it.

For others, it may be. But $4000 is a lot of money for someone who lives paycheck to paycheck to pay for. (That's more than two months worth of pay at my old job, and nearly three times my monthly VA income now that I'm full-timing as a student.) By the time I am even able to save that much money for the procedure it will have likely ceased to be worth even bothering. I'm generally happy with wearing glasses and it doesn't negatively affect my quality of life to the point where I would really want to spend that kind of money.

I have weighed the options on this several times and made a decision based on what's right for me. Maybe $4000 is worth it to a lot of you guys, but it isn't worth it to me.

It did include lifetime adjustments. I went into it knowing it wouldn't be my only time. But I hope to get 15+ correction-less years on the first surgery, and it's already been so worth it.

Fulltime contacts since 7th grade to.. I only have to brush my teeth before bed? Yes please. Also, it was nice not having to fumble with contacts while I was in Uganda & Ethiopia.
