Welcome to the bay fucking area where homes that are 40 years old and 1300 Sq feet are selling for 500k, yet a 1900sq foot new construction with a 45 minute commute is 375k to 425k.

The market is nuts out here and places for rent are at a commodity so people are gouging. Honestly if not for Melena and his government job and my well paying non degree job, we'd be fucked.

At one point at the old place I worked 3 jobs, part of why we sought out lower rent because I was miserable.

I never in my fucking life imagined I'd be saving to buy a home that's half a million fuck. I grew up in Florida where homes were expensive at 250k.

It's so funny you say that because I come from Northwestern PA and rent and housing up there is so much fucking cheaper than here, and so when I moved here and started looking for apartments my mind was fucking blown.

$700 for 2/2 here. Roommate so I only pay $350. I live in a college town but not on the college side so the rent is hella cheap. If I moved 2 miles west I'd be paying a lot more.

I pay $649/month. I could have gotten a cheaper place, but I have a Washer/Dryer and I needed an apartment with hookups. When I was hunting three years ago, this was one of like three places that had W/D hookups in one-bedroom apartments. So fucking annoying, but I wasn't going to put my appliances in storage and then have to go to a fucking laundromat weekly. Fuck that.

Fuck all of you. In DC we were paying over 2 grand for 1 bedroom with no washer/dryer or dishwasher. Now we in the burbs paying 2200 for two bed 2 bath.

I'd actually consider astylla's cheap from what I know about San Fran

We're not in SF , but suburbs called Hayward / Castro Valley. In the city itself we could never afford it can easily run 2500 to 4k a month. But the whole bay area is inflated from Silicon Valley to here. So many people commute 45 minutes to 2 hours each way daily because they had to move to where housing is cheaper.

So you either do a shitty commute or pay way over what the area is worth for convience. It's a fucking bitch.

Public transit is the way to go here but it's still limited outside SF. I drive with my husband to his work and he drops me 9ff at the train station which I take into Pleasanton where I work ( 25 minute ride) then walk or bus the mile to my office. They have been working on expansion for the train system known as BART here but it's faced opposition and funding concerns.

You guys all are getting boned. 2400 sq. ft. HOUSE on 70'x90' corner lot. 4 bedrooms, 2 living areas, dining room, full kitchen, deck, 2 bathrooms, garage. $1000/mo in Portland. And it's not even on a main road. Gotta shop them deals! We found this one when we were looking for a place closer to my work 5 years ago. Prices were $1200+ for fucking 1 and 2 bedroom apartments. Ridiculous prices so we said fuck that. Kept looking and found an ad on CL with very little info and no photos or anything. Called on it expecting a scam. It was not a scam and we won the rental lottery.

I'm in Portland too, and I'm trying to envision what neighborhood you're in to be able to snag that. No way you're near Laurelhurst.

I am on the west side. It's actually technically unincorporated Washington County. Think Multnomah/Metzger/Garden Home/Capital Hwy. Also, We must drink at the Kennedy School! It's a tradition! Meet up with FFXI/BG members and have a drink! I keep talking about it but I am terrible at setting stuff like that up lol.

$362 a month for my portion of a two bedroom apartment with 2.5 bath and washer dryer. Fairly new, clean, nice neighborhood.

...Though I'll probably be moving to Seattle in the next six months, so so much for that.
