Yeah. I feel that pain. I'm right in the middle of Manhattan in the Flatiron. It's expensive but incredibly convenient for work and everything else I need to do. It's worth it for another year or so. Gonna pick up and move to Chicago and get a ridiculous place.
Prior to going back to school I was paying 475/mo plus utilities, so aggregate about 525/mo in one of Chicago's NW neighborhoods. It was a super shitty garden-level with no A/C. I got what I paid for, after all the shit I had to deal with.
Fiancée getting wisdom teeth out and an absess/infection cleaned out right now, I'm stuck in a waiting room watching court room judge shows THAT AREN'T EVEN JUDGE JUDY. Some of the people are in costumes ffs. I have no idea how long I'm gonna be here then when we get home I gotta deal with her and I remember how useless and shitty I was after getting mine out. Fml.
my rent is paid for. it's also ~2300 a month. 3/3.
Why I keep at least a few games on my phone that don't rely on an internet connection. The VA hospital is a fucking bunker, so my cell service blows unless I'm on the top floor. So I'll load up solitaire or Bejeweled for my wait, or if I think I'm going to be there an excessively long time, I'll stuff a book in my purse.
I fucking hate our county's IT Department with every fiber of my being. Pushing out 8 laptops since yesterday, all cloned from the same image. One laptop though won't connect to the VPN, the Cisco software kicks back an error about the vpn driver not working. Do all the standard stuff like uninstall/reinstall. Nothing works, so I open a ticket up with them as they manage all the networks, as well as the VPN and thus are the only ones who can contact Cisco for support. I get a call back from someone who hasn't even read the e-mail I sent, wants me to call him back after uninstalling it (no fuck you buddy, you can sit on the phone for 45 seconds while it uninstalls and reinstalls and reboots, I have an SSD drive in here), then tries to blame it on being 64 bit windows (again, fuck you buddy, I got 7 other laptops alone with the same image that it works on), then asks me to run windows updates to see if it fixes it.
After telling him that windows is fully updated and that there are no other updates, he then asks about office updates. Then asks me "well what do you think the issue is?" No fuck you buddy, if I know what the issue is, why would I open up a god damn fucking ticket while I got a ton of other shit I can be doing before our monthly circle jerk meeting begins in an hour. I hate that A: they have fucking retards working there, and B: that said retards make more than me at the same time.
First thing I thought of when reading your predicament (thanks xkcd)

It really is. If it's something I don't know right off the top of my head, I google the answer and they don't even know that I had to look it up 99% of the time.
^ how I deal with 3/4 of PC/mobile issues. I guess I have above average knowledge about computers and stuff but in general, I do most stuff with Google's help, lol. Sometimes I try to teach people to do the same, but usually it's futile.
And yeah, IT departments and admins (sorry) can go to hell D:
sorry nothing. mods=fags
But then I run into this often enough:
