This motherfucker right here.
Nothing brings out the flavor of a steak like ketchup!
You guys laugh, but part of the reason I couldn't stand to eat meat was the way my mom cooked it. I'd drown it in any sort of sauce to try to make it taste better. It wasn't until adulthood when I met people who could actually cook that I realized that meat is actually fucking delicious. So that pic of the steak and ketchup is a sad reminder of the shit I put up with as a child.
Read through the first three books of a series, ordered the next three. Of course the first one that arrives is book 6.
I can't cook steaks either, and it frustrates the fuck out of me. There are certain things I do really well with cooking...and then there is a lot of shit I just can't do. I try so fucking hard and follow recipes to the T, and still can't do it.
Steaks are one
Making a nonrunny gravy is another.
Steak, I just don't get it. I can't feel any difference doing the palm toughness test thing. My steaks always seem dry and untasty. Big issue I have is most guides are how to make rare stakes. My husband likes medium to medium well. I like well done.
And before people say well done steaks can't be tasty, I say, "fuck you." I get tons and tons of nice juicy steaks that are well done from restaurants.
I don't mind a little pink actually, but it'd take a miracle for me to cook a steak with a little pink in it. I either way over cook or way undercook.
idk I suck
even if I make it medium, it still doesn't taste good though. Not juicy, not flavorful, nothing.

Don't slice it right off the grill/pan
Let it get to room temp before cooking
Also, if you're comparing steaks to steakhouses, get fucking real. They pour butter, oil and salt over those things until they are about twice as caloric as if you cooked it at home.
Literally.
There are more than a few steakhouses that inject their steaks with butter and spices.
I worked at Lonestar Steakhouse and Saloon almost ten years ago (my first job actually) and the procedure to cooking all meat was to salt each side until it was orange (the color of the seasoning salt). Once done you would place it on the plate and pour lemon butter over the top to give it a golden appearance as well as the butter flavor.
Still, nothing beats sitting down in front of a fat ass porterhouse.
I think I'm lucky that growing up my mom cooked steak enough at home for me to pick it up, in addition to working in restaurants.
Everything's pretty much been said but in all honesty anything above medium is a waste of a good cut. My go to method is hot pan, lots of butter, season with salt(kosher preferred) and black pepper at room temperature and rub it in well. Add more butter while cooking and if you think you've added enough, Add more lol.
Stainless pans work best for a good sear but it can be done in non stick too. If you have to have it well done then finishing it in the oven is by far the best method. But still I'll never understand the fucking point, just have a hamburger at that point. All the best meats are cooked to rare to medium rare.
Not bad. Id recommend watching this in addition. I prefer using a seasoned cast iron pan, NOT cutting into the meat until at least 5 minutes (preferably 10) after it is finishing cooking, and using a combination of the stove and oven. With a lean steak like the sirloin you REALLY need to use some fat when you cook it. I prefer not to use butter except to finish it because if you are using a hot pan to sear, it can easily burn.
Watch this, and never have your steak suck again:
I made 20 lbs of sirloin steaks for my last family gathering using nothing but this method, the stove/oven, and some salt and pepper. Family loved it, and we spent a fraction of the cost of going out. The only issue is that depending on how done the steaks are (I had requests from Rare to Medium+) it can get a little smokey, so make sure you have a fan ready if the smoke detector is an issue.
Also, for taste preferences, I use avocado oil instead of olive oil. Strictly a taste preference but dispite the cost I think it is worth it.
So yesterday I had a massive fail that pretty much turned into a win. Wife and I both got Samsung S5 phones last July, and honestly, they've been performing like crap for us over the last couple of months, especially when it comes to simple stuff like text messages taking minutes to go through. Since we've been grandfathered into an unlimited data plan that they've been trying to get us out of, we thought it would be a good time to switch to a 20gb shared plan (we average 14-16gb of useage currently, but wasn't using wifi often). Went in on the 28th and the sales rep told us switching wouldn't be an issue, just to come back after Apple does it's announcement to either get a discounted IPhone 6 Plus, or preorder the 6S Plus.
Went in Tuesday to do the switch and preorder, and the rep basically called me a liar, saying the previous employee wouldn't have said that and nothing she could do while being rude as fuck to me. I asked for a managers business card, which she promptly told me she doesn't have one to give. I then ask for her to write down the name and phone # and magically a card appears for the assistant sales manager. I call her up, and she promises to call me back as soon as she gets off lunch.
Hour and a half later, I call her back, leave a vm, and she finally calls me back. Apologizes for how the rep spoke to me, but told me she was right, i'm still under contract, nothing they can do. Call customer care and see if they will help. Call up customer care, basically told sorry, but here's a 25 dollar bill credit for your time. Explained I appreciated it as my beef was being called a liar. If they just said hey you can't upgrade when I went in 2 weeks ago, it would have been the end of it.
Yesterday I then get an e-mail from AT&T about changes to my plan/bill. I assume it's about the 25 dollar bill credit, so I log into my account. I was changed to the 20gb plan, and the pricing was somehow fucked up. Was going to skyrocket my bill from 159 a month to 270 and still couldn't upgrade my phone to boot. Called up customer care, they transferred me to retention where the guy pretty much shit his pants, lowered my bill on the 20gb plan to 115 a month + taxes for both the wife an i, waived upgrade fee's on new phones and put in the notes we are to be able to purchase the 128gb IPhone 6S Plus for each line + free otterbox pricing case for each, plus priority shipping and tempered glass screen covers. So we both get new phones, and my bill will only go up about 20 bucks a month over what i'm paying now.
Third day off work after falling onto a concrete curb. Muscle relaxers are great but make me tired as fuck. Back is still very sore but forcing myself to get up and stretch as able.
There's nothing easy to fix for food and I'm fucking starving, but no desire to have Chinese or pizza for delivery.
