Random Fail: First World Problems

When I was in college, my apt had an electronic lock on the front door which was always malfunctioning. With three other roommates, it was very rarely an issue because someone would be home to let you in if the lock malfunctioned. There was one time however that I got home late (2am-ish) and nobody was home and damn it, I wanted to get in. I called the emergency maintenance line and had them send someone come unlock it. When the dude got there he wanted me to sign a form waiving him of responsibility for damages and agree to pay a $45 lock fee. I refused because I HAVE THE GODDAMN KEY and its the electronic lock that's fucking up, not me. I argued with the dude for probably 10 minutes before he caved and just popped it for me without having to sign. The next day I requested that the office change my lock to a regular lock so this shit would stop. They did. At the end of the month I got a $100 fee for the unlock and lock replacement. I told them I never signed anything agreeing to a fee and the replacement was THEIR faulty equipment and if they didn't remove the fee they could talk to my lawyer (which I totally didn't have one and was an empty threat cause I was a poor college student), but they flinched on the threat and removed the fee.

TL;DR--Most apartment managers are scumbags.

It is expecting the janitor to enforce a legal/convenience issue. I am here to fix your broken shit and I will do that to the best of my ability and call a contractor if my ability is not enough. I will not concern myself with your inconvenience. Call the property manager, not the emergency maintenance line.

Bottom line: Don't call maintenance for some dumbass parking in your space. It has nothing to do with anything being broken.

It's tricky though because maintenance can't really enforce rental policies. It's shitty though because people are rarely held responsible in apartment complexes for their breach of contracts. We luckily have someone on site who's the manager so if shit goes really bad I know whose door I'm knocking on or at least leaving multiple notes and messages for.

For awhile we literally had a tow service available to call in case of people illegally parked but they stopped that. If you can't get into your space though due to illegal parking take photos, license plates and present it to the managers. If they refuse to take reasonable action to prevent it eventually they can be held liable.

This is unfortunately true as well. The maintenance guy/locksmith was a piece of shit for cornering you and shaking you down then billing as a tenant charge to your office when you refused. I have been doing property maintenance for 5+ years and have argued with several managers over them charging the tenants. A 2000 unit complex will bring in over 2 million per month at 90% occupancy in my area. They don't need your $100. They are just greedy as fuck.

Maintenance has means to get in touch with building management. If there's no publicly listed phone number to make contact that's who gets the call.

Aiden, maybe she didn't. One of my brothers also has anxiety/depression issues, and we have removed most of the guns from the house except a bb gun and a hunting rifle (which is hard to shoot yourself with); and if I started going into Downtown Atlanta a lot, I wouldn't get a gun, I'd get mace or a stungun for protection since until he gets a full handle on it, we can't have any smaller guns in the house. We'd run the risk of him shooting himself.

I second that. My parents were not aware of the depression I struggled with, and actually downplayed it quite a lot, never taking the time to seek me help, telling me "it's all in your head, just do something that makes you happy, you'll cheer up." It wasn't until adulthood when I was able to learn that it is indeed a legitimate thing and not just something I had made up for attention. A lot of parents are fucking jerks.

And then there are the kids who simply don't want to bring it up because they don't want to burden their families with their problems - if you're suicidal, you often feel like a burden to the people around you. You think that by ending your life, you're ending their suffering (from having to deal with you). It's a horrible way to live your life.

That all said, I'm sorry for your loss, Hated. Losing people to suicide is the worst pain.

I ordered 4 copper mugs for my groomsmen with an initial engraved on them from Williams Sonoma. They were ordered last Monday, the 14th, with a estimated ship date of the 16th. As of this morning, their system still says estimated ship date of the 16th and delivery date unavailable.

Called them and the mugs are just sitting in their warehouse apparently. Not backordered, nothing wrong, they just haven't finished "processing" them. Told them I need them by Saturday for my wedding and they added rush processing and shipping.

How the fuck does it take over a week to send this shit to me? It seems like their system just ignored my order.

I understand your frustration and it's really not acceptable. While not the same, I had Newegg's "Premier" membership for the 3 day shipping. At first it was money. Then my orders starting being late. I had one I ordered on a Tuesday (so it should've been at the house on Friday right?!) and it didn't get there until next Wednesday. When I called them out on it they said even with the 3 day shipping they still have 1-3 days "processing". I know this isn't a good attitude, but whenever I deal with big companies for anything (which is almost always) I pretty much expect the worse and hope for the mediocre.

Yeah, corporate machines can be fucking terrible about shipping/mailing. Friend of mine has been going through the ringer over lower back/disc issues, a big part being the people who work with her doctor frequently giving her the runaround and making it difficult, if not impossible to get some pain meds so she's not virtually paralyzed and unable to care for her daughter. Anyway, last bit of the saga had them mailing her something important printed out 8/24, but not actually getting postmarked until 9/19.

Tried telling her multiple times to try and find a different doctor or shoot higher up the food chain for enforcing a patients' bill of rights and such. More extreme could be lawyering up or even trying to go to local news media with info she's documented over this long-standing mess.

Started a new temp gig today. Show up and spend 3 hours dicking about before I'm even told what I'm expected to do.

Then told that the guy that's going to give me my work/access to systems is out until tomorrow. Super unsure why they had me start today if nobody would be around to give me work. It's not like I'm a permanent employee and can seek out extra duties, much less on my first day.

I'm falling asleep over here! Plus I hate feeling useless at work.

I'm so sorry to hear about this, regardless of the how and why it still is difficult.

Now my fail feels pretty selfish but I got no sleep, had fucked nightmares all night and my period decided that the day I go for my nerve testing is obviously the absolute best fucking time to show up. So in addition to back pain from the fall still present I get to deal with more back pain from mother fucking nature in addition to nausea ( I'm not fucking pregnant I just get nausea with my period it sucks).

We got stranded on a traverse between two peaks yesterday. Ended up having to re-summit the first and go back down the long way. Trying the traverse was ill-advised at that time, my fuck up for sure. You always gotta respect the mountains.

God damn, longest day of my life, 6am to 10pm on the trail. I was above 4000m (13000ft+) for 8 hours straight, little light-headed, little nauseous, bloody shin, lots of sore and low on water. We had to hike out 7 miles in the pitch dark.
