What was the reason?
A cop was shot and killed yesterday evening; some time around the end of the evening rush.
I understand that this was a shitty thing, but if it takes them 16 hours to investigate even after they've already captured the guy that did it they need to step their game up. We had concrete trucks that were unable to get into Manhattan at all; dump trucks took 5 hours to reach job sites, and crews getting forced down terrible routes because of truck restrictions.
Terrible day in Manhattan.
The developers for Marvel Conquest of Champions, Kabam, just basically nuked their own game starting tomorrow

tl;dr: For a long time there was complaints about the grind in the arena battles portion of the game. Currently every hero had a recharge use of 2hours, and the arenas lasted 3 days. Tomorrow the recharge has been changed to 3 hours, 4 hours 5 hours or 6 hours depending on the star rating of the hero. You could pay 15 units to recharge a single hero and now it's moved to 45 units per hero. You of course can buy units at a huge rate with cash, but for the most part the average player didn't need to do this if they just wanted to go for milestones in the arenas and not the top finishers. Now milestones have been increased, and one of the their employees basically said in a post that in order to place in the top 400 finishes, you'll have to spend money. Everyone is now calling out Kabam as money hungry whores.
Thread has blown up to 30 pages in under 2 hours.
Bought a new pair of shoes so I have to adjust to the pedals in my car. And I drive stick.
There's a lot more than that. Assume though you have to spend about an hour just getting everyone out of there so you can begin evidence gathering, then several hours for evidence gathering. Then you have to let the coroner's office in to gather the body. Once that's all done, you have call in a hazmat cleaning company to clean all the bodily fluids, blood, etc so that it doesn't become a biological risk. If it's the situation i'm thinking about yesterday, the cop was shot in the head so you got brains and guts + the suspect was also shot. And yeah once that's all done, they have to do another inspection before giving the all clear to open up.
Finally worked up the nerve to order a new super telephoto lens for wildlife/bird photography. $1,500 later and the lens is on back order so who knows when I will get it.![]()
Ordering it is a win. Backorder is my fwp for sure.
I admittedly did not know how much goes into a clean up, but at the same time you don't see other roads in NYC being shut down for 16 hours after a shooting, let alone the single highway that services the east side of Manhattan.
I wouldn't be surprised if the city in general lost tens of millions of dollars in revenue yesterday. The hour and a half it took me to get to work was from my apartment in the Bronx to the south end of the Bronx. I wasn't even going to Manhattan.
Other than the experience with our trucks and crews, I've also heard from other people that they weren't able to get into work at all and that several businesses were closed because the owners/managers couldn't get in to open them.
Anyway, it was still a terrible day in NYC.
Yeah, it is shitty. And when it's an officer involved death it can be much more involved. 6 years ago when Oakland PD had 4 people killed by the same guy, getting around anywhere in Oakland that day unless you took the BART train and walked was a nightmare. Several streets closed, a bunch of homes evacuated for the better part of 12+ hours when the suspect was holed up in his apartment and eventually killed when SWAT raided the place. It absolutely blew.
Another thing as well as clean up crews have to have very specific credentials. It's always possible if they are on another call, can cause a delay in getting out there for a clean up. We had an incident at the jail I worked at where one of the inmates in the mental ward spent the day covering the walls and doors with feces. We had another incident where an inmate was transferred from a city jail to our jail and somehow it was missed that he had lice. That shit spread to the entire housing unit. Approximately 150 inmates had to have all their hair shaved, then moved one by one to another housing unit. Once that was done we had to call in a pest guy who had to bomb the entire housing unit. Then wait 2 weeks to ensure all the lice were dead. Then have a hazmat crew come in, take all the blankets, mattresses and inmate clothes that were left behind and toss them and scrub the whole housing unit down.
There isn't enough money in the world to get me to take that job. I'll flip burgers first lol
Do you watch Shameless?
There's an episode where one of the characters, Fiona, takes a job as a "hazmat" cleaner. Think it was a basement full of sewage that she had to pump down or something.
At the Apple Store getting a co workers phone repaired and the agency credit card is getting declined. Fml
Hence why the only time machine that makes sense is this:

24 hour before we head in to start store setup. I'm sitting outside of the training centre about to resign.
If you don't read any more posts it's because my boss killed me.
I'm going to take the L. No real way to smooth this over.
Don't be scared. If your current employer really wants you they can match or pay you more then the new company is offering. This is their loss and their problem.
Old job had already booked people to fill positions. So they couldn't cancel them.
That sucks man. Good luck.
