Eh, mai professors never miss a day. Actually, we usually stay like 5-10 min. after class. They just keep going and going, sometimes we have to stop 'em cuz we need to gtfo to the next class. They cool af doe.
Random shit: In some math class the professor asked, 'somebody, give me your favourite number,' some student: '69.' Class erupted in laughter. BOYZ WILL BE BOYZ.
No real place to put this, and not worth it's own thread but:
PSA: No, Christians are not upset about Starbuck's cups this holiday season.
One dude on facebook posted a rant about Starbucks "taking away their Christmas cups" (which never existed), and if you look at the comments, most are calling him an idiot and that he got all his facts wrong. It seems that what actually went viral were people upset at Christians, rather than this one dude.
I am sure there are a few idiots who side with them, but they are very few and very dumb and do not represent Christians at all.
A coworker's father died unexpectedly three weeks ago. She has been in and out of the office dealing with her now alone elderly mother. When she is in the office, she is (understandably) a complete wreck and scatterbrain. I'm doing my best to be sympathetic and understanding with her situation, but it's reaching a point where her abscence and fuck ups are causing me and others to do lots of extra, unnecessary work, and often at the last minute when it could be done days in advance.
At what point can I not be considered heartless and just tell her (privately) to get her shit together?
Don't go one on one with her, it will go badly. Let your boss know that you and her equals are sympathetic but it's affecting business.
If you go to her one on one you will burn the relationship and your bosses will take her side. It's a shitty situation but inserting yourself into only holds bad possibilities for you.
Stuff like this has to come from a boss.
Interestingly enough I'm in a similar situation... only his father isn't quite dead yet. It's also kind of annoying because I'm a week ahead on my work but can't even take one of my 20 vacation days I have built up. Also he kind of is denying how scatterbrained he is. Like one day I noticed we were heading out of town when I was sure we only had work in town that day. He just blows me off like uh huh. Sure enough we get to a regular stop in the wrong city and then blames me for not being more assertative
Ahh Zet, the voice of reason! He's right, and exactly what I was going to say: Do not bring this up to her, worst case you get fired. Best case is still not a good case. Boss only and basically deal with it. Sorry!
But on the reals, zet's response is correct. This kind of thing needs to be brought up by her boss. If you decide to talk to the boss, phrase it as follows.
I understand employee X is having a rough time. Is there any way we can pull aside a few members of the team to cover for her in the mean time? We've had a few things dropped on us last minute and I think if we have multiple people working on it, we can catch up quick.
Or something along those lines. You don't want to call her out to the boss. Put it so you're attempting to cover for her while she gets through her grief.
Yeah, nailed it. Emphasis on the covering-her angle. You come across as sympathetic and a good worker that way. Win-win, if such a term can even be used in that situation.
I've got a combo fail and fwp. We're doing wedding thank yous and can't figure out what this says. One of my college roommates gave it to us; picked it up in Japan since hes dping research there. It looks like a scarf, but its thin and rough. Can anyone translate this?
Spoiler: show
Too weaks of tests have me feeling like shit and week af. Lost sex pounds around my waste.
It's a hand towel with a Japanese pattern (Fujiyama according to the text), so it can be used for about the same things as a regular towel. More on that here.
Complain all day yesterday to our facilities staff that there is a bad odor in the lab that evolved from Bad BO to Dank Dumpster over a 24 hour period. Instead of cleaning whatever needed to be cleaned, they drop an air freshener bomb so strong that it now smells like a bathroom with a pile of festering poop in the corner.
