Random Fail: First World Problems

So I've been having ISP problems for a while now, they've sent techs out but so far nothing they have done has fixed the issue. I'd drop connection for a few minutes, seemingly at random. Sometimes I'd reset the modem, other times I'd just wait it out (depends on my level of patience at the current moment). Noticed it with lag spikes and sometimes disconnects in WoW, getting kicked off of games in WiiU, and both computers. I'm super fucking annoyed by it at this point and I just keep calling them, and I called them last night and finally got them to send out another tech because I'm still having these problems.

So since I know the tech is coming tomorrow, I decided that I'd keep track of every time (while I'm home) that my internet goes down. Here's where it gets weird. The times I logged are: 0648, 0818, 1018, 1319, 1752, 1820, 1850, 1852, 1920, 1950, 2020, 2049, 2119, and 2122. (A few of those I thought were done because they'd come back then gone right back down again). So basically there's a pattern here: On or around :20 or :50, my internet goes down, sometimes for several minutes, and then comes back up.

Anyone ever hear of this happening before? I'm obviously going to pass this info to the tech when he comes out tomorrow, but like, I can almost set my watch by this shit at this point. Weird that it took me deciding to write this down to notice a pattern, and wondering what it means, but maybe this means that finally these assholes at Brighthouse can fix my fucking shit because I'm tired of it.

Same problem exactly for me. Every 30 minutes (give or take a minute) my modem resets. It is a known problem with the modem I have and there is no solution. Been 3ish months of this shit and they want to charge me to have a new modem shipped to me and it will be 10-14 days. Oh...did I mention that I live 3 minutes from the Comcast tech center where the modem ships from?

They've told me it's not my modem, which is weird. But the tech is supposedly bringing one with him tomorrow, so we'll see.

But not being able to just pick it up is fucking fail all on its own. ISPs are awful.

So it's probably unrelated problems unless it's not actually my modem that is the issue and they just decided to bullshit me because it's easier to lie to the customer and make them buy new equipment than it is to troubleshoot the issue and fix it for their paying customers.

That sounds pretty accurate, actually. I'll be sure to post back in this thread if the techs can figure it out. They told me that even the flood in my apartment last April could have caused problems, and to be honest, I don't know if that's when I started having issues. I can't say that it doesn't make any sense at all, but who knows. Apparently the lines in these buildings are old as fuck.

When my modem resets, it is only the wireless card that resets. Takes about 30 seconds to cycle. It's fast enough that I rarely get DC'd from FFXI.

Yeah when I'm playing WoW I usually get a really bad lag spike, sometimes it disconnects me, other times it doesn't. If I'm browsing the interwebs, I won't be able to connect to any sites for a minute or two.

Depending on your provider but if you are on copper lines feeding your service then it could be a port issue down the street that could be changed over if it's happening in specific intervals

also aks that sounds like line noise to me. i had similar shit. could be some kind of machinery kicking in, putting out interference in an area with weakened shielding.

The ISP problems sound similar to what happened to me a while back where my internet would randomly drop frequently. The tech that came found that my coaxial cable connection was barely connected to the wall jack and my modem as it was old, but it was the only extended cable I own. This was due to me recently mopping the floor and physically jerking the cable around while cleaning. Try to ask your service to reset the connection and if the reset is more delayed than usual or simply does not occur, this may be the problem. Hopefully this is it as you just need to replace the cable and everything goes back to normal.

We are really scraping bottom to hire employees at my theatre before star wars hits. Had to show a new guy how to brew coffee tonight. Put the grounds in the basket, put the air pot underneath, then hit the button (only two buttons on the machine, on/off and brew). About twenty minutes later, guy orders a cup of coffee. So our employee of the year puts fresh grounds over the old stuff that he didn't throw out, put the full pot underneath, then hits brew. Needless to say, it made quite the mess.

I don't know how some of these kids survive past puberty these days.

Internet went down again at 11:50, as scheduled. I knew it wasn't the fucking modem.
