I hate the fuck out of shoveling so I'm happy to swing back up to Boston for the holidays and then peace out before anyone expects anything of me.
I'll probably be back full time next year though![]()

Have the week off but work won't stop calling and I absolutely refuse to answer it. Fuck them.
Just had Star Wars spoiled for me
I would 100% rather live in my car and steal groceries than be as beatdown as some of you RE: work
Would hope the military is taking care of you after all those deployments.
Grading papers on kids' childhood memories, and so many make me want to puke on how adults have treated them. I struggle with how to respond to them sometimes. Like, "Sorry your dad was a shithead, but your writing structure is excellent!" (I don't seriously write that, but hopefully you'll get the idea.)
Funny story, I have a friend (see: people I went to HS with) who were posting to another one of their friends that there was a Veteran Job Fair nearby them and that locally, they were hiring tons of vets so he should look into it.
I made a comment about how the Veteran Job Fairs are mostly jokes put on by businesses for advertising or non-profits so they can profit and that very few, if any, salaried or what we would typically say is a "good job" gets hired out of those fairs. I went on to say that if he was interested I could get him in touch with people who actually mattered.
They lost their shit, basically, that it was none of my business and to stay out of it, etc. (Literally, I don't think I tagged Churchill in this post, did I? Didn't think so, now mind your business while we try to help real Vets)
Ignoring the hilarity of such a statement in general (we're talking about Facebook shit that gets posted to my wall), there are like 2 organizations in the entirety of the military who could claim to be 'realer' vets than I am, lol.
But seriously, those job fairs are a joke. They basically consist of places like Home Depot hiring illegal immigrant level positions out of our Veterans and real companies looking for the autist who didn't think to just apply online. Literally, places like L3 and Lockheed, BAE, Raytheon, etc, if they are present they will talk to you and literally tell you "Okay that's great, you should fill out an application online" - and this is to a guy who was actually already working as an employee for L3 for one of the groups of people who could claim to be a 'realer' vet than me.
So yeah, I'd rather live in my car and steal food than be miserable at a shit job. I wouldn't even feel bad about it, been there before, wasn't bad.
My ps1/2 games folders for the emulators went poof. No idea where they went.![]()
My buddy out in Washington is a vet, he hires vets pretty much exclusively. They brew beer, serve food and grow weed. Not a big company or anything but he's a solid bro.
I just bought a house, but the closing took about 3 weeks longer than it should have because the underwriters went full retard. They kept wanting proof that some of my wife's student loans were paid, the thing is these loans have been paid off for over 3 years and were showing as paid for that whole time on her credit report. Finally our mortgage officer got fed up with it and the last time the came back wanting more proof on these loans he told them that they had more than enough proof that these loans that were showing as paid were really paid and he wasn't going to bother us anymore and that the lender needed to get the closing docs issued asap because we were sick of this bullshit.
Likewise. Father in the office talking to his kid on the telephone, inadvertently repeating what his son said.
Spoiler: show
Either we've got a bit of a coincidence here or humans are the worst.
I know death isn't a "random fail", but this seemed like the best place to vent. My coworker passed away this morning and I just found out. We weren't in the same department anymore because he left and came back, but for 2 years we worked side-by-side for 40-72 hours a week. There were many saturdays where he and I were the only 2 people in the building for 12 hours of OT. Shared a lot of the same interests, We even spent one day singing the "day man" song whenever someone walked by, while we worked. Shit is hitting me pretty hard right now.
That really sucks man, I'm sorry.
I'm really sorry to hear that. It's understandable why it's affecting you , death is a very difficult thing to understand let alone cope with.
Hugs to you and my condolences.
Thanks, I think it's the suddenness of it, as I just saw him yesterday and he was only 24. I've experienced loss before and dealt with it reasonably well.
