Random Fail: First World Problems

I totally feel ya. Last year had a new guy who was a fresh grad and was so ready to learn the science shit. Was going to finish his temp period and start as a permanent at the start of 2015. Passed on new years eve via hit and run. Driver didn't see him near Pacific Coast Highway when he was carrying gear for some midnight crabbing/diving off the beach. Manager started the new year with HR sharing the news then got conveyed to us and holy hell I have never seen my manager in complete tears until then. So young at 23. Reminded me of my fresh face nearly a full decade ago.

I know death isn't a "random fail", but this seemed like the best place to vent. My coworker passed away this morning and I just found out. We weren't in the same department anymore because he left and came back, but for 2 years we worked side-by-side for 40-72 hours a week. There were many saturdays where he and I were the only 2 people in the building for 12 hours of OT. Shared a lot of the same interests, We even spent one day singing the "day man" song whenever someone walked by, while we worked. Shit is hitting me pretty hard right now.

Heating system being completely replaced and upgraded. The transition was supposed to be pretty quick, but a number of issues have delayed the period where I have no heat at all (asbestos-wrapped pipes in the way, gas pressure issues, national grid being a pain, etc)... so I've been without heat since Tuesday. Probably doesn't help that the 2nd floor is still stripped to the studs & exterior walls, too.

Meanwhile, it's now down to 52'F on the 1st floor and I've literally been sitting like this all morning (and still not quite 'warm').

I had a cold winter experience in the TX panhandle in 2011, (-27F wind chill for about 2 days) and it dropped to around 45-50F inside my apartment. I was bundled up just like Ruke

Yeah... 52'F inside a house is not the same as 52'F outside lol. I can run out in a t-shirt and be OK at 52'F outside.

Major difference being, everything in your house cools to and 'radiates' the ambient temperature after enough time (chairs, couch, floor, desk, sheets, utensils, pretty much everything you touch). Not an issue when you go outside because 1) sun heats shit up, 2) you don't run around outside in socks and pajamas, 3) you don't sit outside for hours on end when it's 52'F, and 4) while spending hours outside you don't pull up a rock to sit on and start handling all the colder outside shit.

I'm mostly fine when I first get home, but an hour or two in and it's no longer fun.

You know that feeling when your sit on the cold toilet seat? Imagine every surface, sheet, and article of clothing feeling that way. Even my god damn mouse feels like it was in the refrigerator.

I bought these pre-packaged chicken "slices" (for lack of a better term) that you basically throw in the microwave for a couple minutes and then enjoy. Problem is, there's so much fucking pepper on these things for literally no fucking reason. Like, the pieces of chicken that didn't have any pepper on it (which were tiny pieces) tasted really good and were perfectly tasty. My taste buds are really sensitive so I could barely eat it, which double sucks because I hate wasting food. I really don't understand why they wouldn't just be plain and you can add all of your other spices to your heart's content. I'm gonna just have to buy regular-ass chicken from now on and learn how to cook it because this is ridiculous.
