Sometimes rather than saying you are checking on the "status" of your interview you can call under the auspices of telling them "thank you" for their time, consideration, doing the interview then inquire about the status.

Usually I accomplish this via email or letter rather than a call but I think it is appreciated via call too.

many in my circle do the ole interview followup via letter but a phone call works. Just say you wanted to follow up and thank them for their time and look forward to hearing from them or something IDK i've never had to follow up because i am the man lol. omg this sounds so scary

Lol, I called it. My first day teaching, there would be a fire drill.

It was during lunch time, during which they'd never intentionally schedule a drill, nor will they intentionally schedule a drill during a rainy day. If either of those scenarios happen, we assume it's the real deal. Cooperating teacher and I are sitting in her room having lunch when the alarm goes off, and we just kind of look at each other like "wtf." So I grabbed my purse because if this building is really on fucking fire I'm gonna want my keys and drivers license, and we headed outside. Once they let us back into the building, the principal announced that there was a young child (like a toddler, I guess) who pulled the alarm. At least we won't have another fire drill until March now.

My cooperating teacher called me psychic though, because I had foretold that there would be a fire drill on my first day. Called that shit.

If it's a government job they may do interviews in rounds and can take longer than the normal process. The other not so great part is that if they already have someone in mind , they may still go through the process to seem "fair" . It sucks when you really want the job but don't get discouraged it's very competitive.

One week for a government job is pretty fast. When I got hired the process went like this.

1. Submit an application online that would filter people out based on previous experiences
2. Take written test
3. Take a typing speed test
4. Interview
5. After interview, interview and written test scores are established to determine a ranking, which they mail you to let you know your place.
6. If in top 5, brought back for a second interview with the staff of the agency that has the opening
7. Drug test and physical
8. Hired

Took about 9 weeks from start to finish, though with mine when they hired me, they decided to change the position to a higher rank, so after the offer, they had to temporarily rescind it while they recertified the list and contacted those who may have declined due to it being a lesser position, then got hired.

I want to pull my hair out at work sometimes. We just had a fucking meeting today how we all don't need to complain about every call and comment constantly yet one person as always shares her commentary out loud..after..every..call.

On top of that they literally talk out everything all the time as if inner monologue doesn't exist. They also know how to do their job but constantly ask management about anything that's not "easy" and using Google is unheard of as if it's a foreign fucking language .

Its a tiny position so I doubt they'll do all that. They also said "looking to fill quick" and doing call backs soon. Anyway, I got shit to do so no time to sit around for it anymore. Thanks for all the help so far guys! I'll check in when I know more.

I'm also applying to a government position, and during the end of the interview process, they told me I was the first of 10 people they were interviewing for the position, which I hope is a positive sign. I did decent during the exam they gave in the interview, but missed a few of the math and science questions, so I was hoping to email them a thank you letter containing the corrections as well to show that I can correct my mistakes and learn from them. I'm just worried at the moment since the receptionist said she was going to email me their contact information last Friday, but I haven't received anything yet.

Edit: Oh right, random fail from this is that one of the questions they asked was a scenario that actually occurred to me in real life, and I did not give the correct answer since the specific anomaly became a normal occurrence that I didn't think deeply about past the initial event. I even said to them the anomaly has happened to me before, and mentioned several troubleshooting possibilities, but not the one that corrected the error.

Doesn't hurt to contact the HR receptionist. I know our county HR, they handle the interviews/hiring for every county agency, so you can imagine the amount of calls they get, especially September-April due to open enrollment for benefits followed immediately by getting W-2's ready.

When I interview for a civilian position at my old unit, even though I am guaranteed the job, the hiring process will take 6 to 12 mos and every person who interviews and isn't me is wasting their time.

Ouch, I'm hoping this position doesn't take that long to hear back from, but considering I applied back in November and only got a call 3 days before my interview in February, that may seem like a possibility. At least I overheard from the receptionist while in the front office that anyone who could not make the time they were assigned would automatically be declined for the position. Thank god I immediately agreed to their time instead of seeing if my schedule allowed for it.

I still haven't heard back on the interview yet. At this point I think it's safe to say I didn't get the job. Back to the nah fuck it. Gonna get high and play games until I have to actually move today. Fuck it.

It's kind of random. But yeah for any decent position should do periodic call ins if you haven't been informed yet. Let's you know where things stand and let's them know you interested but not too often to look desperate.

For whatever the job a lot of things could come up from just having a lot of people to interview to other things like the actual workload of that business or agency being unexpectantly high. They also could just have a system where they narrow it down in steps so not finding out yet just means you haven't been voted off the island yet.

My sincere hope is that this is a small enough position that doesn't warrant a drug test. I'm not sure if they DT for every since county position or not. Just as a heads up, most if not almost all government jobs are going to do a piss test.
