Set menu for valentine. Dinner came to $130. I had a $100 gift card. I only gave a $10 tip. Am I a douche?
I would have likely done the same in that situation actually. I could maybe have gone to $145 but no more than $150. $10 a person is a pretty large tip. What kind of restaurant are we talking here? A fixed menu at $130 sounds like a higher end place (to me at least). How long were you there and how was the service?
If people are unaware, wages for food service workers does work differently here in Canada in comparison to the States. Gratuities are not considered a part of their salary until tax season. Their employers can't pay them sub-minimum wage here.
Wasn't above and beyond. But decent. Seafood and steak house. Was there for 1.5 hours. I feel I should have tipped $20. Lol.
I'm kind of of the mind that purely percentage based tipping is kind of retarded. It's jut rewarding luck of the draw on who gets the big spenders. How much service did they actually provide (largely dependent on number of people and time spent) and how good was should be more important.
You should have tipped $20. If you were there for 1.5 hours that's 2-3 tables worth of time easy and most people tip 15-20%.
Not the server's fault you had a giftcard, still took time / table turnover away from them.
You could always go back and give the server another $10 :D
I just add the taxes and that's my TIP i give
Like yesterday it costed 97$, but taxes were worth 9.90 so i gave 10$ tip I think that's fair
Yikes 10 on 130 is fucking brutal. That should have been a 26 dollar tip, especially when only 30 came out of your pocket. Good lord
Always tip 15-20% (or more) depending on the service and food.
Whether the bill is $35 or $400
Actually, from what I can see, most of the Sales Tax options in Canada float around 12-15%.
The exceptions are Alberta, Northewest Territories, Nunavut, and the Yukon (all 5%), then Saskatchewan which appears to be 10%.
Seriously you're the type of customer that gets shit talked about heh. If it's bad service bringing the issue up with a manager is perfectly acceptable also but that doesn't sound the case here.
My biggest pet peeve is people who go out to eat but refuse or are too cheap to tip. Don't go out and especially on a fully booked busy period like this don't fuck around.
Edit: Forgot to add my fail
I'm pretty convinced my female parts are trying to kill me. Cramping and pain radiating from extreme lower end and random issues. Dragging my ass to a women's health doctor for first time in 2 years and dreading it. Last time I left the office crying due to a " well tolerated procedure " which really translates to this is going to fucking hurt but we don't want to scare you off.
I've had abnormal possible precancerous cells since 2010 and have been putting off further procedures since 2014 out of fear. Now I'm regretting it.
Whoa wait what? Do people not base their tips on the price before any coupons and gift cards? If you have a gift card that covers the entire meal, do you not tip at all? That's some bullshit. I base my tips off of the price before any deductions.
Before deductions, before tax, 20% and round down (easier to calculate than 18%) unless the service was terrible. If the service was outstanding in some way, either round up or just add a few bucks.
10 on 130 is fucking terrible.
Tipping in Canada is exactly the same as the US. 15-20% pre-tax.
Jesus.
I always hand over a card and tell the server/bartender "this is for the tab" and then hand them cash and say "this is for you". It works wonders. They will remember you and treat you well on your return trips. But probably not if you hand them $10 for a $130 tab. They will remember you for the wrong reasons after that, lol
The two of you are the fucking worst. Do your states mandate a LIVABLE minimum wage? No? Then it doesn't matter what they make hourly, you tip 15% for mediocre service, 18-20% for everything else, with more if they went above and beyond to "wow" you with service. For shame.
These other guys get it. Poorfags who want to take their date out somewhere nice but want to save money by skipping on a decent tip are always remembered, especially when they tip $10 on $130. I hope you never go back to that restaurant; they won't spit in your food but be prepared to be serviced behind every one else.
