They don't get extra pay. What world do you live in?
They get sub minimum wage pay because the state allows their pay to be supported by tips.

You pay a lesser amount for food at a restaurant in this country than you would anywhere else in the world that pays servers a "fair" wage. Research your shit before you talk shit. Except Mexico. They're always... backwards.
Fuck the 15-20% thing. $5-10 flat dependent on service quality (for myself, more if more people). It's not like going to Denny's makes the dishes easier to wash, the drinks easier to bring out/keep topped off, or taking the order any easier than if I went to some fancier $40 plate Italian place. The waiting staff don't deserve more for the same service just because they happened to get hired at a more expensive place.
I imagine you never eat anywhere that would rack up a $100+ tab if you're talking about Denny's and shitty Italian places. Otherwise let's add him to to the dasva and vagus list, wow
If you don't like tipping go eat at fucking McDonald's you cheap fucks.
In the world where people say not tipping is screwing them over... if the tips are getting them over min wage then tips are just paying the employer outside of the few states that have higher than national min wage for normal workers but allow severs to make combined less than the local. Unless you and/or your employer are being shady...
man i love when BG talks tipping
And this makes me wonder if the reason y'all are so horrible at tipping is because you get shitty service, but then you only get the shitty service because the shitty server from the shitty restaurant knows you're a shitty tipper, and so the cycle continues.
Try a new restaurant, and actually tipping 20% for three or four visits. Watch how quick your attitude changes.
Nope, never been dumpster diving. Nor do I see how giving a $10 tip on a $15 meal if they give good service is cheap. Even if it's shitty service, $5 is still a >15% tip on anything cheaper than $30. I also very rarely go above the $50 range for a meal because it's just not worth it to me outside of special occasions.
I'm not sure you two can read the part about "for myself, more if more people." As in, if I'm paying for multiple people, I will tip more.
You're the dude who asks for prices if there aren't any and if something is free refills. You never order anything but a water and the flatbread pizza because it's cheap. God forbid you're having a bottle of wine or an appetizer, or my god, what if your date wants dessert? This is the dude that says, hun we have ice cream at home.
Bro, no one cares about you eating by yourself. Even in an expensive restaurant it's hard to rack up a bill >$50 by yourself unless you're taking left overs. In those situations $10 tip is very generous.
But we're talking groups dude. Where your bill is $100+ easy even at your local IHOP or Dennys.
Thank you for trying to baselessly impugn me, but you're wrong almost unilaterally. I don't drink alcohol in restaurants because I'm pretty antisocial and don't like being drunk in public. If I'm paying for a date, she's free to get whatever the fuck she wants off a menu; if I wasn't willing to pay for their various options, I wouldn't have brought her there. Now, if you don't mind actually following the discussion.
Right, which is why I'm wondering why you two are jumping on my dick to call me cheap for suggesting a flat tip. Either you didn't read or you can't math, because $5-$10 per person is well above average. If anything, it favors cheaper places, because that staff usually has to put up with a lot more customer shit than fine dining staff.
voting he get the custom title "Male Aks"
That's two points for a double, if anyone's got a scorecard - Though I should feel slightly bad since I'm burning Aks without prior instigation. (Sorrrrrry Aks)
In this thread, reading is hard. I'll tip a barista a dollar for great coffee but if I get a great cup of coffee and two desserts I'm not paying $3-4 extra for the privilege of having my pastries put into a bag.
On the converse, I will most definitely tip more if I'm treated better and I always round up. $60 tab? I'll tip $15.
