And if receiving from support from the select few forum members around here who have posted such gems as "today I went dumpster diving and found this!" And "my asian girlfriend threatened to cut off my dick but she has a nice ass and she can change!" Then by all means, use that as your metric of success.

The rest of us totally wont look down our nose at you the next time you post about how your life, just barely above the poverty line, is absolute shit.

Yes because variances and standard deviations are day to day functions for hell, let's even say 51% of adults.

Also, I am now republican, abortions are evil, vaccines cause downs and autism combined, GMOs are the devil, Trump should be elected and every other ignorant thing that not learning Statistics will have on me. Take your preaching elsewhere. 7 billion people on this planet and it scums you out that I am gonna cheat my way through this.

My entire work division got fucked up the ass as far as annual "merit" increases go. I walk out of my performance review with stellar marks and get a 1% pay increase. Why bother trying when your free market corporation treats its employees like a communist sweat shop.

I'm fully available to do someone's homework in return for money.

However if you want to pass the class, then I don't recommend hiring me.

Back in my FFXI days I would sometimes buy class notes from people for $10 a unit so I could play more FFXI and skip class. It was all on me to study the notes and pass the exams, though. Was worth it.

Pretty much this is where I stand on it. I'll do it, no shame, but it's probably not a good idea. Consenting adults can do whatever the fuck they want, bad ideas and all, though.

I used to do peoples math hw in school for money. But I'd only do it with them so they'd maybe learn something too. Ironically I rarely did my own and usually just copied off the hw I did with them

I've done a lot of private tutoring and the biggest reason why I am fastidious about making sure people understand the material when I'm being paid is that it does no good if they go bomb a test worth 40% of their grade because I did the hw for them.

And you're right, can make bad decisions with all the freedom in the world. Nobody gets a free pass from being shamed for being proud of their own ignorance though.

This is fine and a reason why I do actually love BG. Even when it's directed at me.

    Random Fail: First World Problems

I have no shame , math makes no sense to me outside of algebra and I realize how assbackwards that is. I struggled with math until 8th grade when my teacher realized I was bored and bumped me to AP math which was Pre-algebra . ( it's fucking Florida don't expect much)

Even when I went back for my GED years ago , I struggled with straightforward math and word problems but aced the algebra and geometry areas. Some things just don't click for eceryone .

Unless this is directly important to the functions of their career I don't see the issue.

math is about habits and repetition, if someone is bad at math I immediately assume they are lazy

I don't mind math and I consider myself to be fairly proficient at it, but I don't love it enough to teach it. People always tell me I should teach math because there's always a need for math teachers, but I simply just don't like it that much.

That is probably why there is always a need. Personally I've always thought teaching itself was where the enjoyment was instead of a particular subject... assuming of course it wasn't something that made you feel stupid while teaching it

I'm not an expert by any means, but kids can definitely tell when you hate the subject matter you're teaching. We're encouraged to teach things we're passionate about and not just whatever would give an easy paycheck. There's a math intern at the same school I'm at, and she is an absolute math nerd. I'd rather learn math from her than from myself.

From the student side of the equation, I pretty much hated every class where it felt like the teacher was half-assing it either due to disdain or burnout. So, I'll pretty much say liking the shit matters.

But I'm teaching the most important lesson of all: If there's something you don't want to do, make enough money that you can pay someone else to do it for you. To quote an Econ professor: "I got my degree so I wouldn't have to fix my own car."

in high school our choice of electives was pretty limited; the only "foreign" language we could take was Spanish. I did pretty well in the non-elective introductory course, and had fun with it, so I signed up. The teacher for the more advanced course... well, she was nice enough and seemed reasonably interested in the subject matter, but I got the distinct sense that she was primarily there because she was the principal's wife. Her class was not very adaptable in its teaching methods, so if you didn't take to uninformed rote learning (which i never have- repetition is fine but it does nothing in and of itself for me) you learned very little.

I dropped the class the next year.

I teach high school math. In my area, it seems like it's less that there's a shortage of teachers who can/will teach math and more that there's a shortage of teachers who are willing to teach anything but Honors/AP math. People with the analytical and quantitative skills necessary to effectively teach math can sure as hell get a 'better' job than teaching if they care to, so there's no impetus to make the job any more difficult than it has to be. Between my school and the one my sister teaches at, we've seen 4 different on-level or remedial math teachers walk out of their classrooms and contracts in the middle of the semester to take industry jobs this school year alone. Some of my students are on Math Teacher number 5 for this year in their other math classes (retesters have to take more than one here to catch up), though some of that is just old white ladies getting sick for long periods of time and then eventually retiring for health reasons after leaving a sub in the room for nearly 5 weeks.

I am actually planning a lesson on statistics right now. For high school juniors. In a remedial class. Could use $100 (teacher salaries, lol), but I don't have 5 hours to kill. Sorry.
