Random Fail: First World Problems

Not sure if it fits into this thread but my grandmother died last week. Shit sucks. It has been a rough week. We were really close and my wife, son, and I rent a house on her property. She was the only grandparent I ever knew. My mom who has been her primary care giver for the last 8 years is having a tough time too.

I am glad that BG has been here to keep me distracted when I need entertainment.

She was 90 and had a really awesome long life so I am happy for her but I will really miss her.

Boss repeatedly asking for stuff that would have to be looked up on computer... while he is on the comp with those programs open <.<

Then yells at me cause I made a schedule where they'd get to a stop early... except he told them a time that no matter how I make the schedule we'd never be there then anytime we run that route ever. But yeah totally all my fault

I was supposed to get a check from one of my clients today. Called the office, apparently had some emergency and won't be back til Friday. Secretary doesn't know what to do. Fantastic.

I had a few extra drinks over the weekend, and for some reason felt the urge to cut my hair, weird thing is I did a pretty damn good job. Kinda catchy-22esque.

Use toothpaste to soothe it. Sounds crazy but years ago when eating pizza rolls I burned the fuck out of my lower lip and it works wonders.

Temperate, still water to help burns. Running, cold water and ice will just make it worse.

Yeah I just put it under running water for a minute then sat with my thumb in a bowl of water for about a half an hour. No blistering or anything so it'll be fine.

This is the exact opposite of what I've heard for burn treatment. With nasty burns, tissue is continuing to die beneath the outer layer of skin as the heat moves from the outside in. The only way to stop the progress of the burn is to apply very cold water, ideally an ice bath sort of deal.

I don't know who told you that, but I got my information from my parent's friend who is a nurse and wife of a chef. She's dealt with her fair share of burns so I trust her instructions.

I did some research, and it looks like the idea behind using ice/super cold water is sound, it's just that dumb people who used that idea were causing hypothermia/frostbite. Obviously causing extra problems on top of a burn is worse than letting a burn progress slightly more by not using colder water.

New cat in the home still doesn't get along with our 12-year old cat who's been with us since she was a few months old. It's been two months now since we adopted her. New cat is a spaz and just absolutely annoys the shit out of our old cat. I feel terrible because one of the biggest reasons we got another cat was because our first cat was getting old, and we've read multiple articles in which a second cat helps them live longer. They're constantly fighting, our first cat who used to be evil as hell straight up goes OG on her.

Basically I'm asking is there light at the end of the tunnel for anyone with two cats from different eras? When things get bad we put the second cat back into her own room. Shit is just getting tiring after 2+ months and they're still not getting along. Water bottles thrown and all don't work. Second cat a special type of derp.

It can be really tricky if you've got two cats with antagonistic attitudes. It's possible the new cat just feels like she's in someone else's territory, because she is: OG Cat's been the queen of your space for a decade, and someone else just showed up inside of it. I'm not especially well versed in knowing how to help resolve that situation, though; We got a kitten recently to go along with our own 16 year old queen cat but we also moved houses just before that, so it was "new" ground for them both.

Sometimes there isn't light at the end of the tunnel and they won't ever get along.

We have a really old cat (17 now) and got a kitten 2.5 years ago. They got along for the most part after an initial 1-2 weeks bedding in. The kitten playfully annoyed her from time to time but it was very obviously just playing even though the older cat always seemed agitated with her.

A year later we adopted an older deaf cat (she was 6). The deaf cat and the other cats do not get along even though they have been in the same house for over a year now. They don't fight but they are territorial. The old cat will hiss/growl at the deaf cat whenever she's nearby. The youngest cat does the same and sometimes swats at her. The deaf cat doesn't hiss/growl but will chase the other cats if they come in her 'area' (she has basically claimed the middle floor and the other two have the other 2 floors). It's a bit odd when the deaf cat chases them too as she won't fight them, she just kinda corners them.

Until recently we didn't even think the deaf cat knew how to hiss/growl or fight. But a stray cat has been coming by our house recently and she goes batshit crazy as the window when it does. Snorting and breathing heavily at the window whilst attacking it. Which changed our perspective a bit on her 'aggressive' chasing of the other cats.

The youngest and oldest cat are actually really close now which started after we adopted the deaf cat. They jump in to defend each other and never fight anymore.

Received job offer that is temp-to-hire when I thought it was permanent. Standard but I thought the 2 month process would take care of that. Also less pay than advertised. Still more than I am currently making, but I guess they advertise the permanent pay. Still qualifies for benefits. Tired of eating the shit sandwich my current job serves, so I'll probably take it.

Oh and with the cat thing, don't segregate them like that, it just makes matters worse when they are allowed to mix together.

You probably need to play more with the younger cat to tire it out and also make sure there's plenty of different elevations and hiding spots in the house. Usually when cats fight, if they can avoid each other by taking a different route or chilling out on something above ground level then they do. You generally run into fighting issues when there's a bottleneck where they have to pass each other / can get cornered.
