Think it's private, but even then until you reach tenure unions typically won't do shit. Hell where I work if I take a promotion and if my boss doesn't like me, they can cut me before I'm tenured in the promotion, even though I got almost 7 years right now.
While I do not have a complete formal education I understand where you're coming from and at times feel similar. During my training, for whatever reason Citrix would not load properly on my pc. I followed protocol and went through techs steps. The training "tech expert" only had one piece of advice. Reinstall windows. Yep. That was the only solution she had. So I googled the issue and all I had to do was unpack Citrix and install each component one by one. Also, many people in tech didn't know what a SSD was or understand how my pc was restarting to windows in under 15 seconds.
I had a similar thought when he told me ..seriously WTF. I found out she's filling in and it's not her normal job but that's not a excuse not to understand basic office computer functions in today's world . Google is a tool far under utilized we find , especially the older generation at work where they want it done for them.
It's incredible what YouTube and Google can do for car questions when no one else is around to help.
I'll use this as a rant, but w/e so talked with my GF yesterday about her situation, her job is in a gas station (yes I know nothing big but w/e she likes it and i support her for it)
The situation is the Headoffice of the Gas company decided to change how management works and decided that each owner should have 6-8 gas station and my GF's boss lost his ( stupid shit)
Due to that her boss needs to 'close' the gas station in may and in fact fires everyone. so technically my GF loses her job in may, but the new boss might and should rehire her.
What irritate us in a sense is that we wanted to have cool vacations this year that we probably won't have since if she is a 'new employee' for the new boss, she won't get her 2 weeks vacation like normally.
I do hope she gets her job back but it's really stupid how big companies treat the small offices
I hate to be that person but no one is guaranteed two weeks notice , most states are at will to begin with and unless under a specific clause staying otherwise it can happen to anyone.
It might suck but regardless if she has a kid or not is of no importance and not a valid reason to keep someone or give notice. Obviously something wasn't working out and when all said and done that's the bottom line , not her personal affairs.
I have never actually heard of anyone being given notice when they are fired. It's always been immediate.
Yeah you're not given notice when you're fired. If you were given notice you would lose motivation to continue working and there are some people that would try to fuck things up on their way out too.
At will employment is at will. 2 weeks is for quitting.
My fail today is not my own.
Fucking Bloomberg Excel Add-in decided to shit it's pants for no fucking reason, causing me to have to come into the office on fucking St Paddys. I work literally across the street from the epicenter of drunk idiots commuting into Manhattan (Grand Central).
My commute home is going to be a fucking nightmare and the fucks over at Bloomberg can't even get up here to fix my entire terminal so I'm having to do 80% of my inputs by hand. Nothing like manually filling 2500 rows worth of pricing data.
FUCK.
I fucking hate this fucking bullshit fake ass mick holiday.
First of all, it's our (Irish people) best holiday.
Second, considering what you said about where you work and that you work for Bloomberg I can personally make your commute much worse if you'd like.
EDIT: Also, fuck you, we all still have to work too.
Also, you can't because I'm just gonna walk home.
You guys should totes fight and post it on BG
Wooooooorld Staaaaaaaaarrrrr
You're not in Bloomberg's space at 120 Park Ave (directly across from Grand Central)?
Well, then I can't do shit.
Oh no. I was referring to my Bloomberg terminal, not their offices. If only they ran our support out of there. x_x
I do like that office though.
Their offices are at 731 Lex for our stuff.
