I was in the MetLife building for some lawyer stuff and they have some bonkers shit up there. Can't say which firm but it's the big one. Their cafeteria is better than most restaurants.

Yeah you're not given notice when you're fired. If you were given notice you would lose motivation to continue working and there are some people that would try to fuck things up on their way out too.

I've sort of seen it happen a couple of times but that was usually things like a driver getting in an accident and the company saying we will wait on what our insurance says. It's not exactly definite but you should know if you were driving in such a manner insurance might refuse

The only times I've seen people be given notice if it was a redundancy situation or if they were really high up the foodchain. Like I know our old CEO was effectively fired from the position without actually being fired. There was an immediate management reshuffle and then he 'worked' from home in his new position for about a year before leaving the company.

Got an hour long bike ride. Was supposed to be 2 30 minute rides to and from the movie theater. Forgot my wallet. I would count it as a win except half the ride is through town.

Mom said "she took a turn for the worse" which I take to mean a general failing of everything. My dad's the one been holding out hope that the cat is the next Messiah (he really loves that cat) but yea. She old. Mom wouldn't be putting her down if it wasn't truly a better option. Gonna miss her, I was hoping she'd hold out til my trip home in April.

Not a fail on my end but I'll tell it here. Was expecting a power supply yesterday in the mail. I live in an apartment building with a security door. My mail dude is cool and always buzzes my door and delivers my packages instead of dropping them at the clubhouse. So I get the buzz yesterday and hit my door button to let them in. I usually meet half way because I'm on the third floor. No one was in the building. I go to the front and there is a mail lady with earbuds in. She looks at me but doesn't do anything. I open the door and she just looks at me not saying anything so I say, "package for 304?" She says in a very annoyed voice, "oh....yeah". Goes to the truck and gets it. I tell her thank you and have a nice day and all I get in return is a mmhmm. That lazy bitch probably makes bank and has the nerve to give someone attitude because she didn't do her job. Rhetorical, but what the fuck is wrong with people.

My family lives in the UK and I live in the US, just found from my brother that my mum won the equivalent of $50k playing Bingo today.

Random fail because I didn't even need to ask what she was spending the money on to know she's going to squander it pretty much instantly. Apparently her plan is to buy a holiday home in Spain. Keep in mind she barely works (8 hours per week) and is perenially poor / in debt. She also has a brother and sister who both have holiday homes in Spain that she can use anytime.

Not even going to attempt to talk her out of it as I know it's futile. It would have been nice if she had maybe spent $1000-1500 of that to come visit me though considering I've only seen her twice in the last 3.5 years.

Besides, can 50k buy a holiday home in Spain? Isn't that more like 1/3 of a house?

I don't get the whole Bingo/Lotto thing though anyway. Seems like better to just save that dollar and invest it....less fun I suppose.

Spain has become much cheaper in recent years. Their glut of building before the credit crisis has left a lot of available real estate at budget prices.

Don't know what the market is like over there now but I know that houses were dirt cheap depending on location. Regardless, there's tons of better things she should spend the money on and I know she'll mismanage her money that badly that she won't still own that house in 5 years time.

She probably won't even tell me about it as she knows I'll tell her straight it's a stupid idea.
