It's a charter school, so yeah no union. As to what she did, it's hard to convey. She often comes off as confrontational. but it's not with bad intentions. For example, our IEP meetings are a mess. Most schools, the teacher goes in for 15 minutes, and then is out. Here we sit for an hour and by the end of it, still don't know what is going on with the kid. I have seen her in a meeting sort of pushing to make a goal with the principal wanting to "move on" with this teacher not wanting to.
Of course no one is guaranteed. But it would be nice if our society could stop obsessing about companies being dicks unless ordered by law. It's common decency. I think being a single mom is an extremely valid reason to be nice and give some kind of package to help her get a chance to find a job.
