Currently people are recommended to keep it dry and clean. Getting it wet sloughs off a bunch of skin that you might not necessarily lose if you had kept it dry, and simultaneously introduces whatever other shit is in your water to a big hole in your immune system's normal barriers.

I'll use this as a rant, but w/e so talked with my GF yesterday about her situation, her job is in a gas station (yes I know nothing big but w/e she likes it and i support her for it)

The situation is the Headoffice of the Gas company decided to change how management works and decided that each owner should have 6-8 gas station and my GF's boss lost his ( stupid shit)

Due to that her boss needs to 'close' the gas station in may and in fact fires everyone. so technically my GF loses her job in may, but the new boss might and should rehire her.

What irritate us in a sense is that we wanted to have cool vacations this year that we probably won't have since if she is a 'new employee' for the new boss, she won't get her 2 weeks vacation like normally.

I do hope she gets her job back but it's really stupid how big companies treat the small offices

If you've been saving up. Then just go on vacation tHen find a new job. Otherwise, can tell new employee she is going on a trip and was pre planned. She will take risk some companies won't hire her.

Think it's private, but even then until you reach tenure unions typically won't do shit. Hell where I work if I take a promotion and if my boss doesn't like me, they can cut me before I'm tenured in the promotion, even though I got almost 7 years right now.

It's a charter school, so yeah no union. As to what she did, it's hard to convey. She often comes off as confrontational. but it's not with bad intentions. For example, our IEP meetings are a mess. Most schools, the teacher goes in for 15 minutes, and then is out. Here we sit for an hour and by the end of it, still don't know what is going on with the kid. I have seen her in a meeting sort of pushing to make a goal with the principal wanting to "move on" with this teacher not wanting to.

I hate to be that person but no one is guaranteed two weeks notice , most states are at will to begin with and unless under a specific clause staying otherwise it can happen to anyone.

It might suck but regardless if she has a kid or not is of no importance and not a valid reason to keep someone or give notice. Obviously something wasn't working out and when all said and done that's the bottom line , not her personal affairs.

Of course no one is guaranteed. But it would be nice if our society could stop obsessing about companies being dicks unless ordered by law. It's common decency. I think being a single mom is an extremely valid reason to be nice and give some kind of package to help her get a chance to find a job.

Then where do you draw the line , as I don't buy into the whole " but he/she has a kid to support she should get a break".

That's a life choice and not one any company or organization should have to care about frankly. So then it becomes an issue of favoritism. Just because someone has or doesn't have kids has no bearing on their own job abilities nor should it have any bearing on performance.
Why does anyone with or without kids deserve more ? They don't.

Exactly. I think being bitter that someone gets a little help because they are in a tough situation is a prime example of why a capitalist society sucks monkeyballs. I don't think we should accept that way of thinking at all.

I'm more annoyed by the idea that they're going to have to pull in a long term sub for 2 months which means the kids will probably waste the rest of the semester and be that far behind next year.

As someone who had a full year of a substitute teacher...i concur: those kids arent going to learn a damn thing the rest of the year.

Ouch. Yeah. It's pretty much always a loss for the students when shit like this happens. Even if they get someone qualified to teach the course, they're going to be fighting the kids on 7 months of the previous teacher's policies, procedures, and expectations. The kids are comfortable. Shaking things up this late is just going to make a mess.

Personally I've only really seen this happen when teachers get cancer or pregnancy complications or something. The fact that this principal was willing to fire a perfectly healthy teacher in the middle of the semester says to me that she dun fucked up big time somewhere. Like, bad enough to be considered a danger to the students or at the very least worse for them than scrubbing 2 months off the calendar.

I remember that course, it was grade 8 science...the teacher was out for a full year because she broke her leg, and we had a substitute. It was literally a free period every time, and I dont think anyone failed the course.

Reminds me of how I went a full quarter @ college with 4 different lecturers for general chemistry. First guy for 3 weeks, then 3 subs (one was the dept chair) the next 2 weeks, then first guy again for another 2 weeks, then the department chair for the final 2 weeks with an announcement that the first guy retired. Find out next quarter the first guy died to a gangrene infection in his toe no more than 4 weeks after his "retirement." God that quarter sucked.

I completely agree with this too. It is midterm week for us, and they fired her the day before she was to give her midterm. Many students wanted to protest (and some use it as an excuse) and not take the midterm.

The timing is just really bad.

Im not as hype on them as I was a decade ago nor do I have the requisite stamina to beat up small children who pushmosh anymore but I'm still sad that I missed it.

They havent in like forever. If you were really into them I'm sure this was amazing but I always just liked them, wasn't crazy.

The FATA show I went to in Brooklyn in December though. That was my shit. Made my life.
