My wife has friends in Burlington. They love it up there. I would want to be a little further south I think.

AS far as pay v. cost of living, I completely agree. If I were to move up there now I may make 10-15% less. If I get my P.E. first I think I could make a little bit more than I do now. Obviously I'd make even more if I stayed in NYC, but I think the trade off is worth it.

It's nice in spring and summer, not usually that warm. In winter you get shit loads of snow which I love because I snowboard. You can get several acres of land with a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house for around $200k.

I guess it's also because it's not a "Fast-paced" area. You aren't hustling everywhere. Some other friends of ours want to get a house up there too, but they want it more as a getaway than anything.

It's pretty awesome. Good people, good quality of life. It's pretty amazing in every season. Awesome foliage in fall, snow in winter, spring and summer are crazy nice. There are a number of great breweries up there. Great farms for produce and meat.

It's generally great.

Christ, I'll stick to the upper Midwest (Minneapolis area). 3 bed 2 bath, big ass yard that backs up to a city park walking trails and ball fields. $1690/mo including insurance and cheap ass property taxes. It's worth the suffering a bad winter here and there to have a lower cost of living.

Gonna make cheese, beer, and run a restaurant that seats 10 and is open for dinner 4 days a week.

BG people can drop in for free cheese.

I've already got the brewing gear covered. Only for about 2.5 cases at a time, but we'll expand slowly. It'll be artisan craft beer made from pure mountain distilled water...

Ok yeah I'm familiar and don't blame you at all.
I come from Florida where an expensive house in my parents area was around 225k in early 2000, though still with inflation would be cheap but it's Florida so lawl.

We had planned to be in a house by now but life had other plans. We honestly made the mistake of trying to get into an apartment versus a house when I moved here in 09 but it is what it is.
It's one of the reasons I stay at this job because for what I do as mind numbing as it is it would be much harder to move forward with a lesser one.

Housing on the coasts/major metro areas is ridiculous. My wife and I just bought a 4 bed 2 bath house on a 1/3rd acre lot in a nice suburban neighborhood and our mortgage is just under $1300 a month. The basement is only partially finished so we can add another bedroom & bathroom in the future if we need to.
