Random Fail: First World Problems

I semi-take that back, I called her because Bradly has some non-stop flights, but she won't do those.


It's hard, I love my mom to death, but she has a completely severe fear of flying. It's the love of me and my children that gets her on that plane (and probably alcohol), so she's insanely particular. She finds herself more comfortable navigating RI's airport more than Bradley (not sure why, they are about the same size iirc, but w/e).

Part of it is also probably her trying to talk herself out of coming out of fear. If she can't pick a flight I may call my uncle and see if he can't force her to go to bradley.

It's hard enough to get herself to mentally get on a plane once, so if she can avoid having to do it twice in one day then it helps.

It's just mad fear.

Just for background, my mom is on medication for stuff like that. She is one of those people who if left to her own devices would find herself going to work and home and that's it. Until the medication, she had severe fears of driving over bridges. When I was growing up, I didn't know what was on the top floor of the mall because it had open floors, and she was too afraid to walk up there. The medication helps, but it can only do so much. I completely understand she has this fear, it just makes it hard to try and accommodate it.

depends on where the other terminal is and how much time they give you.

Flew from London to BHM with a stop in ATL b/c intl hub. Had an hour until my flight home boarded, I thought nbd. Huge ass line for customs and then I had to grab my bags. I was able to carry-on a bottle of scotch I bought and flew 12 hrs with it, but had to get it into my checked bags for a 30 minute flight and wasn't aware of that and had zip-tied my bags. I don't even remember how I managed to get it in there lol. Made it to the terminal with about 5 minutes to spare.

The first sentence is applicable to any flight, sometimes you get a shitty time and location. Though I figure they try to give you enough time when they set things up, you never know what happens. The anecdote was just adding on. I had one from a nonintl flight stopping in Dallas going to PHX where I had to go up a flight of stairs and then wait to get my dick stared at back when body scanners were compulsory. moral of that story is "don't travel with smokers" and "cheap flights are a hassle" and "you get what you paid for".

I was worried about a tight international layover I had last year so I contact airline and basically they won't sell tickets for a layover you can't make (assuming no delays). If you end up missing the flight they take care of all expenses getting you to your destination even if it means putting you on another airline

If its interline you have nothing to worry about. If you're switching airlines or alliances you get zero.

Anyway personal fail time

So going around the block I live on is roughly a mile. Makes it a pretty good for jogging and having a good idea of how far I've gone. Best yet it's more of a rectangle with the skinny sides being only around .15 miles so I can walk that part and sprint the longer sides similar to how I would walk curves sprint straight aways in track forever and a day ago. Anyways when I started the first long side only had a few small apartments on one side and a huge mostly empty and dark mall parking lot on the other. I like running in the dark so was nice... over the last year they've built a target and a sports shop there so tons of light .

But that was fine since the other long side was just houses on one side and a giant field with no street lights. So I could basically finish up my run with just the light from the moon and like porch lights and quiet. No cars every going down the street that late etc. That alone made it my favorite part of the run. But also sometimes critters from the field would wander over and that would be nice too. Like once had a family of skunks run along side me and have had trash pandas jump and run around with me a few times. Was nice. Anyways they started building condo/townhouses over in the field around a year ago but last time I ran was still nice.

But been a couple of months since I ran due to various fails so last night was the first time I've ran since they'd finished a bunch of them and let people move in. And of course the entire area now has really bright streetlights and flood lights up. Actually painfully bright. No it's always noisy with decent amounts of traffic which gets hairy with there being no sidewalks or even shoulder. My trash pandas have been replaced by teens sneaking out to smoke. Only upside was caught a couple of cutes ones mirin as I ran by

Fridge update: Left it unplugged from Thursday evening through Saturday morning and now it runs again. Landlord isn't going to replace it. To whoever asked; I could fit a full-size fridge in the basement, but the space where we could put it is currently being used for storing our fake christmas tree. Also, I don't want to buy a fridge right now.

More fail: went to a show last night with the wifey. Originally we were going to take off today, but I had a meeting pop up for today with NYC Parks on one of my sites in Brooklyn and couldn't blow it off. Wifey decided to go into work as well since she had some shit to do. 15 minutes before I was going to leave me office for the meeting, Parks cancelled the meeting because of the wind we'd had. They have trees and branches falling everywhere and are sending their people out to find "at risk" trees.

Should have stayed in bed today.

I'm completely exhausted in the office today and can't figure out why. It's infuriating.

I need a new one anyway. This one fell apart pretty quickly. It's torn and it shrank too.

Luckily the trees in my neighborhood were trimmed a few months ago so no downed branches.

The church nearby wasn't so lucky. A nice, old tree on their grounds fell over and knocked out part of their stained glass window and iron fence. The thing was so old/heavy that it tore up the sidewalk in front of the church, roots and all.

It wasn't wind. It was the East River overflowing into it.

It was p much Michael Bay's wet dream.

Above-ground lines? Not enough/too much slack caused the wire to be pulled out of the transformer is my guess. If it's too tight it could make it resonate and shake like the old footage of the Tacoma Narrows bridge. Too much and the weight of the wire swinging/pulling could cause it to come loose.

I watched a line come out of a transformer a few years ago in VT. Was due to snow, though. Bright blue flash/sparks, fire in the snow on the ground, and someone's bridge from the road to their house.

Friend came out of the house and said it was aliens.
