How did they make it so you can't drink what you want?
How did they make it so you can't drink what you want?
Yeah, I want to hear more about this sealed coffee mug thing. They lost it and now you can't have coffee/tea? Is this a cult?
They just implemented a company policy. No eating or drinking at your desk except for water or coffee/tea in the mug they provided. I guess technically you could put soda in the mug and they wouldn't know.
It was mainly due to people being either scruffy or clumsy with spillages, etc. They didn't want that carrying over into the new building.
I've requested a new mug like 4 times and it's never been replaced so I've just dealt with it.
idk to me it seems pretty reasonable but maybe that's because I know and am used to the effectiveness of militaristic leadership and policies.
The building is predominantly a call centre environment but that's not what I do. I'm in charge of quality assurance and am the go to guy for technical help if sales or installers have question/issues.
In the old building we just did whatever we wanted. I was always eating at my desk and drinking tea, energy drinks, soda, etc.
I think it's funny that they are telling them they can only use this one kind of mug, but I guess they're just trying to prevent people from staining the new shit.
Still, any sealed mug should have been fine.
It's obviously a company branded one but it has some sort of weird seal on it that prevents / minimizes spillage. I remember when they were shopping for them, they were really particular about the sealing mechanism.
But yeah any sealed mug should be fine since if anybody spills it's probably in the open position anyway so there will be some sort of spillage.
Get some personalized pencils that say something dumb and embarassing on it that will make the kids not want to hang on to them any longer than necessary. Or else, buy the crappiest pencils you can at the dollar store. I used to do that with pens to give out to classmates, and when they bitched about how they didn't work half the time, I told them they should bring their own in the future next time. Now, I get you can't really tell a kid that, but if the pencils you give out are cheap and the lead keeps breaking, they might remember their own since they know yours suck.
So today a customer gave me the perfect "that's what she said" setup and I had to bite my tongue because professionalism and all that jazz. I mean sure me and my coworkers still laughed about it later but not being able to inform her of her faux pas really bugged me thru the day.
Also on the way home had what would've been a personal best time riding home ruined by some old dude in a Camry driving like a moron. Like I ended up only being around 40 seconds from my record and this guy costed me at least 1 minute by driving 10 MPH in a 25-35 MPH area, stopping at ever intersection even if there was no one else at it and we didn't have a light/sign for at least 10 seconds while looking in a full 360, and worst he made it so no one could pass him by weaving back and forth the whole time like he was in Nascar or some shit. And he did this for a good .3 miles before I managed to pass him.
I think the dude that just delivered my Domino's Pizza might be a sexual predator...creepy old guy, first asked about how quiet the neighborhood was. Then asked if my landlords did background checks on tenants. Creepy, but ok. Then when I handed him a $5 cash tip, he said "Thanks, the less Uncle Sam knows, the better!" What the fuck lol
+2
I recently ordered some ugly fuzzy feather pens for myself in class because kids kept stealing my pens (which I don't lend out to begin with). I am going to put some labels on them that they are mine, so hopefully they'll be less likely to steal those.
As for pencils, I have a policy. Either they pay me a quarter to buy a pencil (which I use to buy more pencils), or they give me something important like their phone or sweater. When they give me the pencil back, they get their item back.
Kids still manage to steal the pencils, but at a much much lower rate than before. So at least I'm not restocking like every fucking week.
Those are good ideas. I have no income at the moment because unpaid internships and shit, but when I get my own classroom, that's something I'll get a handle on. More than anything, I just wanted to vent and here on BG was infinitely better for it than Facebook or the kid's face.
Does your current school supply you with pencils at all? Mine do, but not at the rate my kids were stealing them before. Now, with my method I don't pay for pencils anymore, as they disappear slow enough for me to get more from the office and purchase when I have enough quarters.
[edit] Don't get me wrong, though. I feel your pain, as it's frustrating as shit. Especially the pens for me as I often have to sign things, and I'm like, "Wtf are all my pens that are not for you?!" So I get ya.
I mean, it took until this week for me to get the ugly pens as is.
Sister posted this on her FB saying how she should do it.
Immediately linked her to a google search result of "How to make key copy from photo" and reminded how much of a bad idea letting other know not only your current address but your history of residences is.
AE crashed (hardware failure). Restarted my pc and windows wouldn't display any files, it was all fucked up. I tried sys restore but the points got deleted (!). After 2 hours of troubleshooting I managed to fix it and finished the project. I'm going to take this thing first thing in the morning (like in two hours) to my client before it explodes and collect mai check. awwwwwwww yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.
Went for a promotion in my company -- was told by the Director... and I paraphrase but kept the swear he said: "No bull shit, we have no doubt that you can do the job, in-fact we were deeply impressed by your interview and what you've done so far with the company - but we have chosen to go to a different path. Let me ask, how old are you?" Which I responded turning 27 in a month.... and he then when on about my maturity and how many in a couple months or a year I will be ready."
This is pretty much blatant age discrimination. I had three referrals from people who do the job that work under him I was going for and I even had had my director write a letter of recommendation. I am a young looking 26, and I think that this director - who knows nothing about me aside from the work I've done, and to keep it vague, I've done very well, and tells me I am to immature and that I can come off a bit harsh. I am salty.
I have a meeting with that same director today to talk about his feed back and ask if he feels my maturity is due to my emotional intelligence, and how he feels I am "too harsh" when I run a program that gets rave reviews from the VP of our building.
FYI: I make great money at my current job, I am happy - I was looking for a new challenge as I have turned this program into a well oiled machine, and I am not going to destroy my career with this company by doing any sort of legal recourse. More of a vent session today.
That's a shitty situation I'm sorry and understand your frustration it's certainly justified.
My fail is constantly seeing Facebook posts asking what "business professional attire" means or asking what you wear to interviews post grad. These are usually adults who have been working in various professional fields in some cases already yet still have to ask this.
Then the whole thing about not knowing how to compose a resume and cover letter either. I truly believe these concepts are lost on people now and it's terrifying to me. At least you have fucking Google if you are that inept. I hare people more each day.
Had to pay taxes for the first time ever because my wife, who always could file exempt, didn't change her tax status when we got married. Still owed money even after claiming 0 on state and federal, and having a charitable car donation. -.-;
