Random Fail: First World Problems

Left my new job feeling good. Stopped at a light headed home and what do I see in my rearview mirror? A full-sized truck heading full speed in my direction with no visible driver behind the wheel. Can't do anything but brace for impact. Luckily I see a head pop up in enough time for him to at least apply the brakes for a couple feet. No injuries, minor body damage. His truck had more damage than my dinky compact. When dealing with the insurance it is MUCH less stressful being on this side of it. He even admitted to the police officer that he had dropped something and looked away to pick it up.

Making outbound calls at work and 3 calls in a row the person I was asking for had passed away. I hate those calls its the worst feeling for bothering their family members ugh.

Person wants to use a credit card I tell them we don't take cards. They ask if they can use a debit I repeat no cards. They swear they paid with a card last time which definitely didn't happen. So then they ask well if we don't accept cards what do we accept. I reply cash or check they then say so you don't take check....

I used to work in telemarketing and I was never sure if they were being truthful or just saying that so we'd stop calling.

This isn't cold calling , just more followup on regular customers and most we deal with are fairly honest and talk about them and seem to be older so I'm inclined to believe them. However regardless I try to keep it short and polite because I dealt with this personally after my mom passed so I'm definitely sensitive on this subject.

When I worked for DirecTV it really disgusted me how they handled client deaths to close accounts. They required a notarized death certificate before agreeing to close out an account, and if said account was still under contract/owed money, they required a next of kin or estate manager to pay off any outstanding balance, even if that person was never listed on the original customer contract. Just one of the list of shitty things I saw them do that made me swear them off forever. They still make pretty funny commercials though.

A close friend worked for them for awhile and I can attest to the bullshit and why she thankfully moved on. That just is appalling and it's a fucking tv service ugh.

There was a story I had read about Citi credit cards calling for debt from a deceased. They somehow got the grand kid. They told Citi about the death but the person actually pressed about collecting the debt. The kid said something like, "what do you want me to do. They are DEAD." Citi responded by asking if there was a forwarding address to which the kid replied yes, the cemetery.

While semi off topic and more of a miss piggy story, it wasn't recent so I'll put it here. In 2009 a Florida couple bought a home for cash. Two months after the purchase Bank of America tried to put them in foreclosure. End result? After more shenanigans from BoA the couple hires a lawyer and they put a foreclosure on the BoA branch!
