Random Fail: First World Problems

So had a rather interesting ride into work today...

So one section of my route has a bunch of stop signs/lights every other block or so which ends up in a poor part of town. Usually not a lot of traffic going down it cause fuck all those stops. I take it cause not a lot of traffic, it's the shortest route and closest detour puts me going thru downtown. But today there was a line of like 5 cars zooming stop sign to stop sign. At one point some dick pulls in front of me even though we practically already at the stop and there is a car parked on the side. But whatevs I'm used to dick drivers so I just note to be careful around him. I hear him revving his engine and after the stop he is riding the dude in front of him hard.

We get to near the next stop and the guy in front of the jerk just completely stops. Out pops a Hispanic dude who looks fairly calm for a guy about to confront a guy for riding his ass. Out pops the jerk who looks like a cross between a gym bro and a ginger lumberjack and immediately says "wanna fight bro?" Which would've been hilarious except the Hispanic dude answered by lifting up his arm to show he brought a tire iron with him... at this point I'm already about to pass the cars on the right. Anyways lumberbro freaks out as the Hispanic dude starts destroying his windshield and runs behind his car then for some reason decides to again come at the Hispanic dude but from the right side of the car. Hispanic dude don't care and comes at him tire iron raised... and at this point I'm basically right between them. I manage to zoom between them but oh man that shit was crazy.

The car gets beat a few more times with I think like 4 windows broken. And Hispanic dude drives off. Lumberbro seems shaken but eventually musters up the courage to get back in his car and chase after the dude honking his horn loudly the whole time despite the other guy having enough of a lead you couldn't see him anymore

Good thing I've spent 40 hours on it the last 3.5 days.

I am maxing out 3 Excel files with data right now and trying to get aggregate numbers and start pivot'ing everything I need.

Within said files, there are very minute errors from user input error. I can't say the data source but the owner used to be mayor of New York.

I am a very angry angry angry angry angry Zet right now.

I'm the guy doing his job, they must be the other guys.

Manually fixing errors in a sheet with 240k+ lines across 1200+ rows is going to make me insane.

It might actually, literally, take less time to learn Matlab, read in the excel data, and then pass the changes through as a series of replace entry commands on the matrix elements.

My own custom civ. Wrote a mod for it and everything. A few mods, actually, since there were some gameplay tweaks I wanted to make that I'd seen in other mods, but those mods also had some stuff I didn't like. I'm playing with a lot of mods, lol.

Kharo Hadakkus, God-King of the Hadakkans. Forts and Citadels have extra yields (2 culture for forts, 4 science 4 culture for citadels. does not get any policy buffs), all units get Survivalism I & II (The Scout promotions that provide defense and healing) and gain a bonus belief when you found a religion.

Unique building: Ziggurat, replaces Monument, bonus gold if city captured by enemy (like egypt's tombs), +2 culture +2 faith +2 science.

Unique unit: Mountain Men, replaces Scout, upgrades into swordsmen. Basically a Shoshone Pathfinder that looks like the Danish Berserkers, with an extra promotion: Iron Discipline: +15% Combat Strength and ignore enemy zones of control.


Probably a bit OP but I play on deity with Historic game speed (Marathon research, Quick everything else) so pretty much every civ is a runaway.

I don't know what the fuck is going on, but everything near the UN building is basically shut down in Midtown Manhattan. Had a meeting at 39th & Madison this morning; took me 2 hours to get there. Usually I get on 1st Ave & 39th St and head west, but the NYPD blocked off everything between at least there and 51st. Had to go up to 51st (which is where everyone else was going too obviously), head west to 5th, loop around onto 50th, south onto Park and around Grand Central.

Fucking nightmare. I left my office around 8:30 this morning, I just got back.

Ha, well found out today why work gives zero fucks about figures levelling out despite having almost 3x more staff now. All the new influx of staff are temps on like $10 an hour instead of the $60-100k the long term people in those positions earned. So they don't care about longterm staff quitting because they think they are entirely replaceable. In fact it may even be their strategy to weed out the people who knew how the company used to be run / old structure.


On the positive side, realized Quality Assurance Manager wasn't what I should be looking for despite it being my most recent experience. Turns out my 7 years of Solidworks experience (3D CAD) is in higher demand because my phone got blown up today after applying for a few of those jobs last night.

So this is not my fail but it's too good not to share.

Everyone has that one hot-mess of a relative who has absolutely no clue how to life, right? Well mine is my cousin, who was living up in Ohio with her parents and her daughter. She's had a few public airing of things on Facebook, most notably when she was tired of her hair getting tangled all the time so she decided to shave it all off, then for the next few weeks proceeded to bitch about not having any hair. Annoying, but whatever.

The other thing she's always talking about his her on/off boyfriend, who has been in jail. In fact, I think I've posted one of her statuses about him getting out in this very thread, where I rolled my eyes and questioned her life choices. I mean okay, maybe he's just hitting a bad spot and he's gonna change. But probably not. And judging by the fact that she's talked about this guy being in jail on more than one occasion, I don't think it's happening. They also break up regularly, and it's always public as shit. "I hate you, fuck you." Then two days later, "I love <Name> so much!" Like serious eye-rolling shit.

About a week or so ago, she started posting about how she and her bf had made a new start here in Florida, and the whole time I'm praying that she's nowhere near this area and it turns out she's not, she's up in Daytona, so about four hours away and not close enough for me to have to interact with her except on the superficial level we've had on Facebook, which is exactly the way I want it because people like that invite drama and I'm not interested. At all. So she's talking about how great it is here, bragging about the warm weather and going to the beach, posting selfies, the whole nine. And then today it happens. I'm scrolling through Facebook on lunch and I come across it:

"Well my boy friend left me stuck here no money no food and no way home somebody please help me"

I knew it, I just fucking knew it. This guy has been a lowdown piece of shit for so long and I just knew that something was gonna happen and she was gonna be fucked. I knew it. And while part of me wants to feel sorry for her, I'm willing to bet that the people closest to her (many of whom are commenting on the post and telling her she shouldn't have trusted him) have told her that it was a bad idea and she ignored it, so I have no sympathy. She had no job, she has no marketable skills since she has literally worked in fast food her entire adult life (she's like 3 years younger than I am), and she put all her trust in some stupid guy. And I'm not helping her. If I get a phone call (not from her, she doesn't have my number and for good reason), I'm saying no. It's too far, it's too expensive, and we are not that close. (There are very few people I would bail out like that, and she's not one of them.) I'm just ... Jesus man, when she fails, she really fucking fails.

Yeah, we all that one relative who is like that (or several). You kinda have to accept their friend request but I just filter their posts out of my Facebook feed. You can only feel bad for them so many times before writing them off. I wonder what on earth they would do without Facebook to cry for attention.

I'm in Orlando so I'll tell you what, once I'm out of this workplace I'll recommend her for a job at my old workplace. They seem to hire anybody nowadays anyway!

Given what some of our recent hires look like, I highly doubt they will care. There's supposed to be a dress code (business casual) but some of them have been coming in flip-flops and shit.
