To be fair, walgreens is supposed to be a pharmacy, so coming in with a gross toenail could = infections and customers are quick to jump on an easy sue.
I will gladly forfeit my right to wear flip flops at work if it will spare me from my coworkers bare feet
I work in a lab. Policy says to wear closed toe and heel shoes.
Women wear the slip on shoes that leave most of the top of the foot exposed but comply with closed toe + heel policy. I honestly think they should be in shoe booties. Whatever. As long as they don't spill acid or bleach on their exposed feet. Haven't had an OSHA violation over it yet.
Works pretty liberal about what we wear as long as our badges are visible. I typically wear scrub pants, a solid color t-shirt and a pair of sneakers.
We have to be clean shaven.
Fuck policies.
TBH I've never understood why anyone gives a shit what you wear at work if it's not a customer-facing job. professionalism can go fuck itself. get the job done and do it right; if you can do that in your Batman underoos then MORE POWER TO YA
My thoughts exactly. Obviously if you have to meet with customers or clients then that's another story but most of my desk jobs I've just sat in a cubicle and had minimal interaction outside of going to the break room for lunch.
Idk about this entirely, but you have to have -some- level of professionalism...I'm not demanding a suit and tie but I wouldn't want to see my surgeon wearing surf shorts and flip flops minutes before he/she repairs a valve in my heart. Or seeing my lawyers in booty shorts before an important court date, whether we like it or not; our outward appearance has almost as much to do with getting a job done as your skill set does. No judge is going to take a lawyer seriously if he's wearing skinny jeans and an Obey t-shirt with a snap back on in their court room.
also i wouldn't give two shits what my surgeon was wearing in a consult. they'll be wearing scrubs when they cut me open.
Semantics? Idk that I would consider a patient a customer but I can see what you mean.
It's the same thing with hair color, piercings, and tattoos. It's dumb as fuck that people are gonna judge me if I have purple hair, and most schools will be perfectly fine with me having colorful hair as a teacher, but in order to interview, I have to have something resembling a normal hair color. When the kids asked me why I'd dyed my hair again and I explained it, they were all like "That's dumb!" Unfortunately, that's just how it is though.
Didn't realize people are so worked up about it. And here I'm just mad I can't wear something cooler than long slacks and workboots in 100+ weather when neither are needed to complete the job
I only complain about people wearing shoes that expose their feet because the number OSHA reportable incidents is a metric on our company's performance and directly affects end of year bonuses for the entire division. I have learned to ignore it for the most part but if I lose out on some money over shoes, now that will be a FWP.
ITT: People who don't understand professional courtesy. We've had this discussion before.
If you have tattoos that aren't covered in normal work attire than you're doomed outside of niche fields. If you have stupid looking colored hair, same goes. Piercings? Ears, occasionally nose. Anything else? Expect the same.
Stop being such fucking neckbeards about it.
I wonder how many working professional women are hiding their tramp stamps they got on spring break over the course of the last decade. So many damn butterflies on the small of the back.
Yup, I know deputies who have to wear long sleeve shirts and bdu's when it's 90 degrees outside cause they have a tattoo on one of their arms.
