Played Settlers of Catan tonight with in laws. In about 2 hours, guessing 40 rolls, we never rolled a 4. Because of this I never was able to get brick from dice rolls.

Can anyone tell me what the probability of never rolling a 4 in any combination in 40 rolls of 2 dice?

For the third straight night there's an alarm going off in the complex next to us. Started at ~2:30AM every night and same fucking wailing so I assume it's the same house especially since I've lived here for 3+ years and never once heard an alarm go off before.

Last 2 nights it has gone off for well over an hour. If it's the same tonight I am going to be really tempted to go find the house and do something I'll likely regret.

People who haven't lived in FL for any amount of time do not understand the flip flops to work. For many places it's fine. For many others it's not, but it being socially acceptable is definitely a thing.

LOL@Tatoo debate. I like what Anoat said, it's circular. There's a lot of factors that go into it from all angles and some of them suck, like prejudgement and employment. I think tattoos are becoming more accepted all around tho. It's just something to experience in life and it's not for everyone, but some people really enjoy it.

Managed to set a small kitchen fire in our apartment. You can just use a plain old calculator. (33/36)^40 is something like 3%

Grandmother died today. Just found out. Last immediate blood relative to me. Masters exam / talk is just under 24 hours from now and it is the week before finals and my job interview is Monday.

This really sucks. She was always exceptionally nice to me and she lived with us literally my whole life before I moved out. Spent more of my life with her than I did with my mom. But I just do not have the time or capacity to have any emotions about this right now, so I've just been sitting deadpan, eating popeyes, with a few mild expletives yelled out. I got the text while I was in a meeting with my adviser finalizing my talk and had to just roll with it, edits need to happen.

I'm sure it's going to hit me 1000x as hard when I finally get to dealing with what has happened, but fuck, right now it just needs to stay in a box and not come anywhere near the rest of my life.
