You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

I have learned that is actually false. I find that posting in a gaming community/having mostly friends in the gaming community has severely warped my perception about people with computers.

Most of my coworkers are amazed about what I can do on computers, which I consider pretty basic stuff. I am not lying when I say a coworker seriously asked me, "Does this mean you know how to install programs and stuff?" She's not old, nor would I consider her a ditzy person.

In some ways it does make sense. The average non-gamer our age uses a computer a lot, but for what? Browsing internets. Which doesn't require any kind of knowledge of computers except how to double click w/e web browser was initially installed on their computer in the first place.

They have no desire to figure anything else about it because they don't think they need to.

that's still a working knowledge, though i'll admit that's much more basic than i was thinking when i said it.

anyway "you know computers" is still a shitty reason to assign that work, you dont need anything more complicated than a photocopier to make pamphlets.

Working in IT I can say that this is completely false. You would be amazed at how clueless some people can be. Not everyone knows computers or even has any interest in learning them. And most people only know how to do a very narrow range f things on the computer and are afraid to venture anywhere outside of that.

They also don't teach computer literacy at schools anymore. I remember in the 90s I had to take a computer literacy course, but they don't really offer them anymore. Partially because of testing and there's just no room in the curriculum for them, but also because they assume that kids are born with these things in their hands and they know how to do everything. A lot of my kids are super tech-savvy when it comes to their smartphones, but put them in front of a computer and they have no idea what the fuck.

I remember looking her in the face and being like "I'm not gonna push this any further now, do what you want, but if we're ever gonna take this to the next step you need to realize this shit is gonna fly about 0 fucking feet in the future."

She was so confused, like I was nuts for not understanding the situation, but fuck that she already bends all the way over backward for her family p much every day. Wasn't gonna stand for her letting them walk all over her further and dropping guilt left and right.

As "the computer guy" for my office (and the only one at that), I can assure you that the whole "knowing computers" thing is false. I'm working at a firm with a pretty professional lawyer and I've had to disinfect his computers at least 4 times because he keeps clicking shit he's not supposed to. He also still uses Internet Explorer (or the latest equivalent, MSEdge). Now, this wouldn't be such an issue for me if my job title actually meant what I did.

Dude's got me doing all his marketing, his social media presence, and graphic design for his company, and I'm still getting paid a few dollars over federal minwage. Not even a salary. Ugh.

Oregon Trail. Nothing taught me more about humanity and computers than Oregon Trail.

I'd say computer literacy is rapidly declining these days because people only know how to use phones. It seem a lot of people have only used phones their entire lives and don't even own a PC, and smartphones are not the same as an actual computer

    Kids these daaaays!

I was first introduced to scripting with logowriter. A turtle was involved. It was uninspiring and I thought programming sucked for years.

I remember making that turtle move. Our science teacher had a program he wrote to draw a car. Blew my mind.

Mine was taught by the typing instructor from when our school was cutting edge and had a typewriter class. She was definitely not making the turtle draw cars.

I just had those shitty programs that taught you math and languages and shit.
Not the kind you bought at a store though, these were gov't made, or specifically for schools or some shit, I can't even recall.

I remember that being a prize for selling magazines and I was always all, "I want it!" but I could never sell shit. Instead I'd get those little foam 3D cube puzzles.

I never really thought about it until recently when I came across this:

    http://pickanytwo.net/the-invisible-...-moms-drained/

I do believe kin-keeping is a real thing women feel we need to do. I know I do, and it stresses me the fuck out. I don't want you guys thinking I'm claiming your grievance are invalid, just that it's a real thing and women can easily get exhausted over it, and that's probably why your girl (and Xno's, etc.) was freaking out.
