I still don't understand why it costs $60+ for some specialist barber to cut "Asian hair" for men. My mind is still blown away by that. I have a friend up in Nor Cal that drives from Sacramento to SF every 2-3 months to get his Asian haircut and pays near $100 for it. The fuck. The only explanation is that those barbers know how to work with Asian hair.

I didn't know that just having a certain haircut was hipster. Isn't there more to the package than that? Like massive holes in your earlobes, skinny jeans (on dudes), vintage anything, etc.? I mean wouldn't your personal style be the thing that makes you hipster or not, and not just a singular haircut? I'm trying to understand this I guess.

There is more to being a hipster, but he's specifically referencing haircuts. There are hairstyles that hipsters have more often than not; most of which are what is fashionable right now.

Also, gauges in ears isn't a hipster thing. That shit's been around forever. May have started with the emo/scene kids. Don't know.

I assume the "hipster haircut" he is so upset about is the one that has swept the nation over the last handful of years. This shit went hella main stream around 2011 and you can sort of trace it from Jimmy on Boardwalk Empire to Timberlake's 20/20 to Beckham hosting olympics and Bryce Harper god level.

Yes and no, I guess. There is definitely overlap, but not all scene kids ended up as hipsters and not all hipsters are scene kids.

I get what you're saying, though. It's just an evolution of a group of people from one style (for lack of a better word; brain fart) to another.
