I have a personal policy to not participate in birthday celebrations at work because it drains my wallet. I would have been down a good $30 the past 2 months if I jumped in to celebrate every single coworker's birthday that I got a solicitation email to join in for cake and/or ice cream. Also for the fit people, you would be killing yourself whenever cake was shoved in your face.
I really don't mind girl scout cookies.
Depends on the work. I work around machinery that can kill or horribly maim people around the area. If someone even decided to come to work on strong cold medicine, they are a danger to themselves and other. I had to send a guy home because he ran out of contacts. I'm not about to see them covered in 500* asphalt because they couldn't see the feed lines.
2 car related mishaps in the past few days.
First I was a nice guy and gave a stranger a jump start on break at work. Then when I finished work, found that it completely drained my battery dead. Luckily one of my friends was nearby and came to give me a jump but then had a panicky drive home as I had fuck all gas in the car and was scared once I stopped for gas, it wouldn't restart. So tried to get as close to home as possible. Was 0.1 gallons in the tank when I refilled.
Then yesterday I see my wife struggling with shit to her car so I'm like, give me some of that and I'll also get the doors for you. I put her slice of pie on the roof of the car whilst handing her everything. Of course it stays there and splatters all over her car whilst driving.
Fuck trying to be nice![]()
I'd just like to point out the guy was fired because he bought weed from another person at work, not that he was using/high at work. There's a difference. Of course people who are working with heavy machinery while under the influence should be fired. That's a good way to kill someone. But firing a person simply for having it on their person is unnecessary. On the other hand, if a programmer shows up stoned/drunk, I would give them a lot more leeway. It's hard to cause irreparable damage at a job like that, and some people legitimately solve problems better after a joint or a couple drinks. But if they show that they're fucking up, yeah, fired immediately.
You know, I think I'm going to get myself a hooker and have her give me a handy at the workplace. It's dumb that prostitution is illegal, and I am much more relaxed when I'm getting my junk touched. It would be ridiculous if they fired me for it too.
OK, LOOK. I can kinda see if like. You're brewing your own beer. You're distilling your own vodka. Maybe you grew a sick sativa. Edit: Or baking cookies(/desserts) that aren't shit-ass GSC.
I guess starting with the people you work with at your day time job is a good place.
I could see it happening at my workplace, though. That's the difference. I'm the low-end of the life spectrum, work related. We need these things to get by. While I don't condone doing them (or even transactions) at the workplace - I know it happens.
You don't "need" these things to get by. You use them to cope, that's understandable, but it's by no means a necessity.
Whilst I know there absolutely are people at work who do drugs, if they were caught buying/selling/carrying it at work they would be fired for it because we have an anti-drugs policy in place. It's obvious they are lenient about it as I can't remember anyone getting tested despite a 'random testing' procedure being in place. However, I am sure if they caught you with it they would be forced to act.
I mean don't be that stupid about it. Meet them after work or dump it in your car on break or some shit.
There's been some dumb shit in this thread before... really a large number of times... but my goodness what a conversation.
Also not for nothing but in MANY fields that shit opens the company up to legal liability, which means all cute opinions and semantic arguments mean less than the shit I just took. Guess what matters more to your company? Also many companies have clauses for termination based on essentially public image. If you have 3 jack and cokes every day at work lunches and a client from another country think that represents laziness/other negative stereotypes and threaten to pull their business, think you will have a job tomorrow?
If you work at walmart, sure, do you buddy. Most anywhere else? Stop being dumb.
You bring drugs or alcohol into work, you should get fired. Unless it's a union job, you're shit out of luck.
If you do it before work that's a different story. Gotta prove, and that can be difficult. Send them home and write them up.
Went camping this weekend. Had a good time. Not baller amazing, but still worth the trip. Daughter now has a fever, though.![]()
