Just chiming in to say vets aren't scumbags.
Just chiming in to say vets aren't scumbags.
There's no amount of words to express how much I agree with this. Just in general it's always short term thinking instead of a year , let alone 18 and the unpredictability of circumstances. Granted not everyone has the same mentality but seeing posts constantly about having their 5th or 6th unplanned kid just makes me rage.
Slight woosh here I think.
QuickBooks is fucking garbage. Current problem is I'm looking at the list of invoices for Monday right now. The list is only showing 36 but it says there are 37. I go to the list of things that need to be printed and see one but when I look back at the days list it's not there....
And apparently it's because the boss was working on it and he has a habit of leaving everything he can open and unsaved until he's forced to save or turn it off.
And in the scope of this conversation we are talking about crowd funding to pay for your pet. My personal opinion on who should and shouldn't have a pet is inconsequential because people will still have pets and kids when they can't afford them and kids and pets will continue to suffer as a result.
That doesn't take away from the fact that starting a goFundme to pay for shit that you should be paying for yourself as an upstanding responsible adult pisses me off.
For the record most of the gofundme's I have seen are not made by poor people who actually could use a little bit of help but by people with iphones and netflix trying to shirk responsibility for example the cat dude I talked about above.
Also if you notice I said "If you are a responsible adult and you have a pet you *should* be able to take care of your pet." So yeah I stand by that statement.
My wife sees it all the time at her work.
Granted the issue is much more complex than that because we also have a pet over population issue to deal with.
And they're asking for help. That isn't a crime even if they aren't in the last resort phase. You seem to be interpreting that as failing at adulthood when one could argue the very point of society is to help one another with this being an extension of that. If your workplace is being flooded with this stuff, then take it up with your bosses. Not a fan of giving money to people I don't know or like and I'm getting the vibe you don't want to be guilt tripped for non-participation. So, yeah, not good for the workplace.
I guess my beef is specifically with the idea of gofundme. I don't like it. I don't agree with it. If I need help I ask people in person or send them a note. I am getting really tired of gofundme's getting shared all the time all over facebook or sent out inappropriately like at work.
My personal fail is that in a coincidence I have two good friends moving out of the area this week. Really sucks to not have friends around anymore.
Shit man I love my dog to death, but if a huge bill came up that I couldn't afford and not doing the procedure led to suffering, my dog would be getting put down. That isn't an option with human children. Pretty big difference.
Crowd funding isn't always used responsibly, sure, but it'd do you good to get over the hate. Maybe smack your friends for proliferating the stupid shit.
And in my dog's case, we didn't really have a guarantee. Proposed surgery would've scoped his nose and removed any cancer they found and could. What eventually wound up happening was it spread to his skin, particularly between his hind legs where the skin scaled and necrotized. However, he had also began eating into his outer leg, presumably for the same reason. Also suspect this didn't start in his nose, but somewhere near his kidneys as his peeing behavior changed long before the nose bleeds. Xrays can only do so much there.
My experience was taking on a kitten while working a not great job. He was under a year, and he was a he, so of course he got a terrible urinary track infection and got his damned dick clogged. Surgery to help alleviate it came with no guarantees, cost four digits, and of course didn't help. The best part is that my not great job was at the SPCA, so when all of his vitals plunged and he had to be put down, it was during my shift and I had to help do it, not just be present.
I wouldn't wish that on anyone in the world.
Wow.
To everyone else, while I do expect people to plan for injuries n' such, sometimes that money gets taken away from a previous incident and you are still recovering.
Dude, some children break like 10 bones in 18 years. Do you honestly think people need to have 100k in savings before having kids?
Here's a shocker: some people save, then shit happens, so they use that savings, now they have no savings but already have the kids/pets/whatever.
i cant imagine wanting a child bad enough to be like "well i know im poor so if things get bad its gonna have a super shit life but who cares because i really want a child"
As usual you're going to the absolute extreme of what someone says.
Of course fucking shit happens but having some sort of plan in place of the how and whys without only using assistance from others ( social programs/gofundme whatever) is important. I don't just throw this out without basis , as I watched my sisters have kid after kid without any regard to their future or responsibility that came with. The neighborhoods I grew up in were statistic riddled. I'm not afraid to have unpopular opinions on subjects, life isn't a popularity contest for me , it's harsh and brutal and often unfair but there's almost always a way to work things out if you are willing to try.
My issue is nowadays so often the first response is to ask for help rather than ask " What can I do to help myself first?". Again this isn't everyone but I do think that wanting kids isn't a good enough reason to have them.
My mom wanted me because my brother died in childbirth in 1976.
I grew up in a shitty situation all because her wants outweighed the reality of the situation. There were no savings , no plans for future, no support. She loved me but didn't know how to relate to me when I was 16 and she was in her late 50's. It goes on and on. The only reason we were even taken care of was due to my dad's benefits from the military.
Again no plan , no savings , nothing just using benefits available because she could. It's more complicated than that but it's funny to me how no matter where you go having kids is always a celebration but rarely does it get talked about how financially taxing it can be and the "what if" scenarios are vital IMO.
can i used gofundme to cop a lil korean baby so i dont have to have one of my own?
You quoted tyven being tyven about poor people not having kids and saying how much you agreed with it. I really couldn't care less about your anecdotes trying to support generalizing a huge group of people.
You're entitled to your opinion, I am entitled to thinking your opinion is utter shit.
well i think we can all agree that poor people need more chill
Playing to the other extreme, I don't want Eddie Griswald for a cousin.
Edit: Probably not his last name, but you know what I mean.
