The new employee pretty much got roasted today because of a shitty situation set up by the supervisor. I had to advise my supervisor of the said shitty scheduling and tell the new person to pretty much discard today's clusterfuck and come in fresh on Monday.

Fuck I hate supervising my supervisor.

Supervising my supervisor is probably 60% of my job.

The best is when they disagree with you yet implement/do exactly what you said.

Random fail, last night my oil pan came loose on the highway and all of my oil dumped out of my engine, causing a lockup within minutes. I heard the noise, but with all the construction and random bullshit on the roads (don't ever move to Cincinnati), I didn't think anything of it until my oil light came on, then about a minute later as my car is making a whirling noise into the emergency lane. Company that does my oil changes has a no liability clause after 30 days from service; it's been 42 since they changed my oil.

That said, it's too old to bother fixing. I Ubered to work for $20 today, but I need to find a used car fairly quickly. Work was cool about letting me spend a majority of my time doing research and looking through listings today. Thought I had a fucking unicorn with an 11' Mazda3 with 33k miles for $8k. Get to the dealer and turns out it was 105k, someone derped and listed the milage after the first owner.

I 'settled' on a 14' Chevy Sonic with 22k miles for $11k. I got to take it home and I'm going to have my mechanic give it a look over tomorrow morning before going back. I'm not a car guy by any means. Best I can tell from KBB is that it's a bit on the high side (they'll be coming down a bit, but maybe only $500ish). I've gotta have something by Monday cause fuck paying $40 a day to work. Obviously used cars vary greatly area to area, year, mileage, extras, etc. Is there anything else in that price point / style that I should be considering? Anything specific I should be getting the dealer to do or throw in? I'm really one of the worst car buyers. I can research and read all day, but when it comes to test driving, paperwork, etc, my patience is gone. I swear the entire atmosphere of a car lot just screams RUN AWAY.

I hate American cars. I'd recommend a Civic DX or Toyota Yaris.

Parts are cheap, service is cheap.

Dad had a Yaris. Was pretty good. Great mileage, surprisingly roomy for a car its size, never had any problems, and he put a lot of miles on it. Had to get rid of it when he got a job in Duluth, though. Car like that would not have done well on hills that steep in snows that deep.

Getting a rod thrown sucks since it's an immediate death blow to the car. Nothing they can do other than put a new engine it.

From the AAA standpoint the Sonic is decent. They're not fantastic but they're not awful. Maintenance is relatively on the cheap side. In the AAA rankings it was given a C+ for it's class. For the money you're putting down I would also seriously consider a Civic or something along those lines. With the Civic it's going to last much longer and stand the test of time better imo. Civics are one of the most mechanically reliable cars on the road and have been for some time.

Mal if you want I can make some calls to a few of my garages that are dealerships to see what they have. But the closest place to you would be Washington Court House or Chillicothe.

Damn, solid two hours away or I'd take you up on that. Speaking of AAA, had my first bad experience with em. Was given an ETA of 40 minutes after the initial call. Got the text updates and GPS map, text said ETA was updated to 90 minutes. Sat there faithfully for 60 minutes with no update to the live map even though it said the tech was in route. Called, told they were in route and the map was wrong. Called after 90 and the robot voice said the tow truck was at the breakdown site. wut? Picked the option that said that was wrong, kinda bitched a fit, and while on hold another tow company called and said they were otw. The CSR had done hung up by time I swapped back over, prolly to avoid trying to explain the situation, like the manager I called back and got did. She just apologized and settled on the point that "they're on the way now." Still an invaluable service.

I'll definitely check out a Yaris tomorrow and see what I can get it for. Found a couple listed on Carfax that seem fair here and here.

Maybe I'm too focused on milage but I'm having trouble finding a lowish mileage Civic that's within my budget. Most seem to be 60k+ miles for $12k+. Guess they run so well that you're stuck paying more upfront?

honestly, mileage isn't a huge concern. like, it gives you an idea of the use level, but a car with 30k miles but hasnt had an oil change in 3 years is going to be worse off than a car with 100k and regular maintenance. mileage is just more data to take into account, it's not a sure-fire way to tell if a car is good or not.

When I go to the gym before work I pack a boathouse farms protein milk thing as a meal replacement because sometime I don't feel like eating but these give me some calories without sitting heavy on my stomach. Thought I'd picked up a chocolate one, turned out to be coffee. I'm not a fan of coffee and it tasted like a Marlboro red. Gross,

I like the vanilla bean one. But one time I guess I sat it towards the back of my fridge where it's coldest and some of it froze. Icy vanilla protein chunks were pretty damn gross.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

They need more lego episodes of the marvel heroes. This was an excellent way to get my kids into super heros but I can't take watching the same 30 minute thing OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

Noah has been watching Minions every day before bed for weeks now. I'm praying that Netflix removes it soon.

The day a Cheeseburger + Fries @ In & Out costs more than $5, I still think it's cheap. Considering it's cheaper than a Habit Charburger + fries, which is around $6
