So awhile back the city fenced up an unofficial railroad crossing. Basically was just a street that got interrupted by a bit of dirt and the rails. The reason they didn't want people crossing unofficial crossing is obvious dangers and darwinism... but the detour ends up being a good mile round trip and takes people down a busy street with no sidewalks.
Well apparently the city actually did approve and try to make it an official. Even raised a bunch of money for it. But the state rail authorities basically said they hate more crossings then necessary because more chance of traffic accidents (mind you the street doesn't go thru and wasn't planned to this was going to be pedestrian only) and ordered the city to put a fence up anyways unless they were willing to get rid of another crossing... and since those are all busy streets fence up this crossing. Meanwhile seems they are running overbudget and schedule and are going back on some of their promises of putting a parallel bike/pedestrian path for the length of the train. Hurray for SMART
I'm surprised they're charging for debit though. I dont believe theres any transaction fees for that one. My initial theory was that it leaves an electronic trail, which they'd rather not have (why tell the govt you collected X in rent when you can claim X*.8), but dont checks leave a trail too? I'm too young to know the inner-workings of how checks leave a trail.
People still use that button? Fuck that. I have removed it from every keyboard.
Nynja you srs?
A check is literally a fucking paper trail. They charge for online transactions because a) most people will pay for the convenience b) no young people have checkbooks.
I do, and I have since I was like 16 or whenever the hell I opened my first checking account. Because I'm not a troglodyte.
I used them for my wedding and other people's weddings.
I'm lazy and forgetful. I keep my check book in my travel bag.
I have checks, too! Used for rent.
I don't carry much cash with me anymore, though when I lived in NY I got used to it.
tbh, I wasnt sure if places that cash checks (not banks) will keep a record of their transactions done, or atleast would skim some of the money to keep it off the books. Then again, that money has to come from the bank account anyways, derp. Which I still dont get why they would charge for debit and not a check. If anything, its more hassle for the landlord since they have to go to the bank to deposit the check whereas debit is an immediate transfer.
I have check's somewhere too, they're probably covered in dust though.
I use my checks as a reference for when I have to enter my routing and account numbers for online payments LOL
