I've found this so many times. I've been in a relationship most of my adult life and you'd be surprised how many guys I've met and tried to make friends with do one of the following:

a) get shitty at being "friend zoned" even though I told them straight out I was in a relationship and not interested in anything more than friendship
b) pretended I didn't mention I was in a relationship and try to get in my pants anyway (usually followed by a) )
c) straight up stop talking to me as soon as I mention I'm not looking for a boyfriend but actually looking for a friend.

I have three male friends-only that I consider close friends, and two of them are exes. The other is an ex-housemate who is one of those rare guys who didn't do any of the above.

see, i don't get this. well, rather, i can get it, but i can't empathize with it. i don't particularly want to stick my dick into anyone who i would not also be chill just being awesome with independent of dick sticking. i mean, those conditions met, when offered the choice between sticking dick into and not sticking dick into, i'll generally pursue the former, but a chick isn't going to suddenly stop being cool as fuck just because i am currently unable to dick them.

Meh.

a) Most guys think they're going to have something special that makes you come running to them after you recognize their value.
b) Hi, I'm a guy. Just because you're in a relationship doesn't mean you're faithful.
c) Most guys don't want a friend, that's what they have their guy friends for.

I understand the friend zone. I've been in it, I've put people in it. It's not the end of all things. But it can make for some potentially uncomfortable moments. I've slept with a few female friends of mine that got....hairy as a result. Two of them approached me to "get it out of their system." It was a one time thing that went on for several months. Both of them were firmly planted in my friend zone before that. One ended up wanting more which almost made us stop being friends. The other kept with the no strings attached stance and is still one of my best friends today(hell she was one of my wife's bridesmaids and now one of her best friends.)

Here's the point to my rambling. It echoes Guardian's thoughts. You can be friends and not fuck. But in almost all cases, the guy is going to try at least once. And they most certainly aren't going to pass on smashing a friend if they offer.
