It honestly isn't even about being stale. It is probably the most dangerous move and between the whole concussion thing and the high risk of stinger/broken neck I'm not surprised it's all but banned. Notice how you never see any running powerbombs either after D'lo almost killed Droz.
I didn't mean about the piledriver specifically. It is dangerous and there's good reason to ban it. Just like chair shots to the head. I just mean WWE's direction the last several years. Vince retiring would be a good start. But then HHH and Steph may just continue the plan.
So if you aren't talking about banning dangerous moves, what direction are you talking about? I personally think WWE the last couple of years has been more exciting than the few years previous to that.
It's a good thing Punk was in a match with Cena, who is part of the old guard that actually knows how to take a piledriver...from what I've read since the ban (in '05 or '06 maybe?), they don't even teach it in the developmental system.
The usual. Not creating new stars. Same guys on top for years. The WWE has come along in some of these categories. But then you just have to look at Dolph Ziggler and realize it's pretty much the same as usual.
Plus the comedy. I can do without that.
A little bit of comedy is fine. Still have to cater to the kiddies. It's why I don't get pissed about Brodus/Tensai or Team Hell No. You even had comedy in the attitude era. Kaientai and 24/7 HC Title defense rules come to mind.
As is people are always going to fight and protect their spots. It happened in the 80/90's of WWF/E, WCW, and even the territories of the 70's. I do think the technical aspects have slowly eroded over years, but it's not all gloom and doom.
Personally, I like the comedy bits, we're smart enough to realize that there's very little(legitimate) animosity between most of the guys on the roster. Team Hell No has been fantastic. As far the same stars being on top, that has as much to do with the fans as it does with the office in the back. They'll push the fuck out of Cena until he stops selling millions of dollars of merchandise, and push other guys once they do. You can put a guy out there, but if he has no charisma(sup Kofi) they're destined to wallow in the mid-card until they step it up.
I agree that the programs has been substantially better the last couple of years as opposed to the mid-late 2000s.
Yeah some comedy is fine. But I can do without the Hornswoggles.
I look to the Shield as the ray of hope to this WWE staleness. I hope they don't fuck it up.
Things like Hornswoggle, Sheamus Oscar snubs or w/e, etc etc can go. I actually thought Tensai's new thing is kinda funny. Would be hilarious if he went full tilt with it. Maybe even start dating a funkadactle!
When Cena did the powerbomb I got excited. When Punk tried to kill him I was in awe. That's the stuff it's missing. Guys need to incorporate some different moves into their routine. As a fan, it irritates the hell out of me when say for instance Orton irish whips someone and they miss a clothsline by a mile and he hits his power slam, and then they roll conveniently to the apron so Cole can yell, "Vintage Orton". So annoying.
Yeah, you would think logically anyone facing Orton would always be wary of being on the apron with him.
You can say the same thing about Cena's move right before the 5 knuckle shuffle, where they miss the clothesline and turn around and he picks them up... it's just something that exists in today's wrestling, can't do anything about it.
That is nothing new. Everyone has sequences and there's nothing wrong with that as long as there is good psychology behind it and it works. We used to call it the five moves of doom back in the day. Bret and Shawn are the two that always stand out in my mind...
Bret had the inverted atomic drop, russian legsweep, backbreaker, elbowdrop from the second rope, and sharpshooter. Shawn had the manhattan drop, flying forearm, scoopslam, elbowdrop from the top rope, superkick.
It still wasn't this obvious all the time. I can see the setup to Cena or Orton's sequences coming from a mile away. Makes a lot of their matches very predictable. The great thing about DB and Punk, for example, is that they spice it up all the time. You don't know what they're gonna do next, which keeps you interested in their match.
You're always gonna know that when Sheamus hits White Noise, though, he's gonna do that stupid taunt and go for the Brogue Kick right after.
Again, nothing wrong with it, they just need to spice it up a bit like a lot of guys on the roster actually do.
I kinda see the point. Like yesterday when Cena did the AA after the Hurricarana for the win. Was nice and unexpected. I know that using the sequence gets a good pop from the crowd. But he doesnt ALWAYS need to do his flying shoulder tackle followed by (sometimes the leg drop) followed by 5 knuckle shuffle followed by the AA lol.
SD Tapings...
Spoiler: show
What the fuck are they trying for there?
If they end up turning Show face instead of turning Orton heel they're going to piss off a lot of people.
Even as a kid I wondered why nobody ever thought of just running away from Hulk Hogan when he started to "hulk up". It's just one of those things in wrestling. And in Ric Flair's later career, even Jerry Lawler used to joke about it on commentary whenever Ric Flair would do his top rope/get slammed off spot by saying something like "Don't do it Ric, in 30 years I've never seen you be successful coming off the top rope!"
