I was a big Ultimate Warrior fan when I was a kid. I haven't watched wrestling in years and years now, but when I heard he died and saw the tribute video the WWE did for him, I had to comment. Finding out he died the day after he made that speech to the fans, and then listening to the speech itself, that's just crazy. Almost like he knew it was coming and was making a last hurrah.

Anyway, the WWE tribute from tonight for anyone who hasn't seen it yet:

Honestly, if he did come back, he would do so to put people over and I'm kind of sick of that lol.

WM29 Fandango: He's feuding with fuckin Santino
Ziggler: He kind of just dropped off the radar
CM Punk: CM Punk gone (Though he didn't really "need" this push, their matches were bitchin')

These obviously aren't his fault, but it's pretty piss poor to see an undisputed champion taking so many falls only to see the effort go to waste. Maybe if they made him an actual obstacle with a real feud, this wouldn't be so bad, but it's like he returns just to play a feint falls. Don't misunderstand, he's my favorite out there, but WWE hasn't used his character effectively.

Something I spotted on /r/squaredcircle over the weekend.. Apparently the reason Paige was called up was because Naomi botched the ending of the Wrestlemania match. It was supposed to end with AJ grabbing Naomi's right arm and "forcing" her to tap out (which you could see during the match with AJ holding her right arm with both hands), which would have carried the feud on for awhile longer. But, like an idiot she tapped out with her left hand, and WWE found themselves with nothing going on for the Diva title. Hence, quick roster bump for Paige.

And Jericho is a company man thru and thru. He has put over too many people at this point and his status is devalued, but as far as I'm concerned Raw will always Jericho.

The poor implementation of Jericho in his returns has me hoping he'll just stay away. Easily my favorite wrestler of all time, but bumping him so Sheamus could win the Rumble then having him just lose repeatedly damaged his stock. He sounded like the high school quarterback reliving the Big Game when he talked about his Unified championship win, or Miz crying about beating Cena at Mania years ago. It doesn't mean anything when you're losing to Kofi fucking Kingston in the middle of Smackdown or getting rolled up for a loss by a dancer.

You guys don't understand wrestling.

Jericho is at the point that no matter how many times he loses his stock remains unchanged. He is in a unique position where he can help push future stars. And that's all he can really do at this point because of how irregular his appearances are. There is nothing poor about his usage.

On one hand I agree with you about his status being cemented. On the other hand, I'd like to think that if he showed back up now, we'd all know all he would do is lose. It doesn't mean anything to beat the guy who last won a meaningful match six years ago.

Edit: It could be booked believably and have him still lose, but I've just felt that his recent runs of constant, big losses turned him into just another big-talking match-losing midcarder.

Double edit: I am a huge mark when it comes to my favorites. Well played, WWE meta.

I didn't mean to imply that, and you're right. I just don't feel he was booked to look like anything but a has-been since returning and losing the Rumble. It's very much a what-have-you-done-for-me-lately situation, and while Jericho is always going to be over with the people who watched him years ago, his hallmarks in the past few years have been losing the Rumble, getting knocked out at Elimination Chamber, losing to Punk, losing to Ziggler and being fired, losing another Rumble he was a surprise entrant in, then losing to Fandango at Mania.

This is mostly conjecture on my part of what the "average" fan would see, though, so it's probably way off base. I'm just biased here and wish he was made to look a bit stronger.

And who is Undertaker to your average fan? The guy who shows up from Rumble to WM, then disappears for 9 months. Its been this way for 6 years, but everyone knows who taker is, because they talk about his legacy all the time. Same with Jericho.

A focus of the Jericho/Ziggler storyline was that Jericho could never win the big one since his return. He then proceeded to lose the big one again and his job because of it. Comparing that to Taker's Streak promos seems a bit off to me, but again, I admit to my own heavy bias.

You mentioned the average fan would not know Jericho, because all they see is Jericho "lose" and do not know who Jericho was and what he's done for the business and his legacy in the business. I compared him to Taker, because all they see is Taker wrestle one match every year. Yes, he wins, but he still wrestles ONE match. However, to the average fan, this is relevant, because of the streak, because his legacy is mentioned, every time. Same with Jericho, its not about him losing, its about his legacy, about what he's done. Why do you think they're always so quick to point out how "he is the first undisputed heavyweight champion"? Because they're building his name, theyre making sure the average fan knows this about him. Also the "average" fan seems to be fully aware of the streak and what it meant for Brock to have beaten it.

Winning does not put you over, putting on a good match and entertaining the fans will put you over. Which is why Daniel Bryan got over, beyond over. Bray Wyatt hasnt really wrestled any meaningful matches, but if you think he's not over with the fans, even as a heel, you're dead wrong.

While I agree that Jericho always coming back just to lose does make him look bad, I can see why they do it. That said, they just need to let him win one "Big one" (maybe even the big belt for a bit), have him hold on to that win for a while then ultimately lose to some other new up and comer to give him that boost that Jericho does so well.

That said, I still feel terrible for Ziggler because he *does* have it, they just won't let him shine anymore.

I had forgotten those two used to be tag champs. My how time has flown by.

About Jericho - he won me over as fan waaay back in WCW. And it got solidified foreverternity(lol) when he arrived to WWE with that badass themesong/entrance. His losses do sting(no pun intended), I'd like see him win sometime.

Fav match was between him and Punk at WM, which I STILL feel should have been the main event and not the Cena/Rock match :/

Man, I miss his interviews(forgot what he called his interview segment, but the TV screen was called the Jeritron)
