General WWE Discussion: Roman Weeps, Taker Retires, MNK/SAM/RDM LFP

Beyond the "competition" angle, the strap means that the boss trusts you to lead their company. It is a symbol that you're the focal point of the org. That is why it is still important to the wrestlers.

It's definitely a prestige and honor thing to hold either of the two top titles. And the IC and US titles have typically been stuck on people that are being groomed to break out, however that peters out more often than not before they ever really accomplish a ton. I mean, Look at Kofi as a prime example. He's held both, was in the title picture for a bit, but was immediately pulled back out. Probably because he has like zero charisma. As for seperate Raw and Smackdown titles, the brand extension is by and large over, so they don't really need to be confined to seperate shows anymore, but I also don't think unifying them accomplishes much either.

Long titles reigns to break up bouts of constant title switching can be used to great effect, as they're doing with Punk. I'll agree that back to back year+ long reigns are equally as annoying as month-to-month changes. More title matches on the regular programming honestly wouldn't serve much purpose with monthly pay per views, if they ever go the TNA route, then maybe. Admittedly, frequent title changes can also be fun, I mean look at the old hardcore title, the shit they pulled with that was absolutely hilarious. Obviously the exact stipulations they used there(24/7 title defenses) wouldn't work with anything else, but it was fun to watch.

And Bo Dallas wins the tournament to get into the Royal Rumble. Probably the worst choice of the bunch in my opinion.

My prediction:

Rumble match rolls on, Cena dominates for a while, then the Shield runs out and gets him eliminated. Surprise entrant #30 is a returning Undertaker who wins it. Then in the WWE title match, we get a half hour of action or so and The Rock will appear to have the upperhand, when the Shield makes an appearance and JUST when they are about to hit the ring, a pissed off John Cena comes out looking for revenge on them. Through some shenanigans Cena will accidentally end up decking The Rock and CM Punk steals the win.

Next night on RAW The Rock is PISSED and wants Cena, so now Rock/Cena II is set up for WrestleMania. Undertaker decides to challenge CM Punk and we get 500+ day title reign vs. The Streak at WrestleMania, with Punk actually ELATED to face Undertaker, because in his mind if he is the one to end the streak, people will FINALLY have to admit they respect him.

One problem with your theory.... CM Punk vs Taker will never happen for 2 simple reasons. 1 - Taker will not have a title reign, not even a day-long title reign. and 2 - if the streak is ever to be ended by someone, it's not going to be done by Punk.

I know you are all dying for Cena to not come out with a Rumble win, but it's very predictable that he will, setting up Rock/Cena 2 for the WWE Title after Rock retains in the chamber.

I'm pretty sure the Rumble will be last. They always have the main title match right before the Rumble. They could even pull something weird where whoever loses the title match could enter the Rumble and win. I doubt it but you never know!

Rumble's going to be last. Cena's going to win it, challenge the Rock since he's going to win. Taker v Punk starts being set up soon, possibly after the Chamber, possibly tomorrow. None of that's really speculation at this point. Of course they could go for a mega swerve or something, and that would be awesome. But I just don't see it happening.

Edit: The biggest reason the Rumble match itself is last is because of time. They can let other matches run a little longer and compensate during the Rumble. Time between entrants is supposed to be 90 seconds, so say Rock/Punk runs 3 minutes longer than scheduled, they compensate by bringing in 6 entrants at 60 seconds instead of 90.

The only thing I don't like about the idea of Punk vs. Taker is that Punk doesn't need the rub to make him at this point. Since Undertaker is going to have a lengthy epic match at any Wrestlemania these days, you could put him up against just about anybody and they don't need to win to be an overnight sensation. They just have to look good losing to the king maker. It's exactly how Sting vaulted to the top against Ric Flair. My most ideal candidate for that position? Dean Ambrose. He's new, but he's already got a ton of hype, he can talk like nobody else, he'd be an excellent heel in this situation, and Taker is best suited for his kind of down and dirty brawl style of wrestling. I also wouldn't mind Bryan going up against the streak. You could have Team Friendship explode and it bleed into a feud with Taker. A classic match at Wrestlemania would really cement him as a top flight player.

As for the PPV, I think it will be pretty predictable, but I could be wrong. I think it sets up Rock vs. Cena II: Electric Boogaloo, at Wrestlemania.

There have been a few years where the Rumble was not the last match on the show. I'm fine with Punk/Taker at WM, even if Punk loses. I am one of the people who think the streak should never end, no matter what.

I really hope that when they do bring up Hero they throw him into a feud with Cesaro. As much time as those two spent tagging together in RoH and other promotions, they should put on nothing short of amazing matches against each other.
