Anyone have experience with these guys? They are offering fiber optic 75mb download, 6mb upload at the same rate as Comcast's 20mb speed that I am paying for now. Initial Google reviews are really hit and miss...

fiber optic is much better than comcast. whats the bandwidth cap?
Ya thats what I was thinking. I looked up customer service information for both in the area I'll be headed, and neither of them scored hi. But its hard to pass up 75mb fiber optic for $69.99 when I pay $70 total for the same thing here in Indiana for 20 Mb from Comcast...
Just seems too good to be true, and I want to know the catch. (They even garuntee the price for 3 years, with no contract)
Also, should I invest in a better modem then some standard piece of chunk I have.
jmcgarrell, just curious, do you get television from them too? if so how is it? i'm in Quincy & sometimes i really hate our comcast bill, although i don't really have any complaints about the service.
J Yes I have tv and internet through them.
Im pretty sure I over pay for tv service now. Was a good deal at the time, but I think they offer the tv package cheaper now.
20 mbps internet
Digital deluxe tv + expanded channel package + HBO
1 Tivo box rental, 1 HD box, 2 normal boxes and my bill right now is $150/month.
So minus the boxes, Im paying about $115/month for the internet/tv services itself
*edit*
As for the service itself, I have only had problems with one channel (G4) in which the audio is not in sync with the video. Other than that, vie had no problems with loss of service, or channels going out randomly.
damn, we have almost the same setup here but it's $60-70 more than that each month. maybe i should look into it. thanks.
i have a saved price of 39.99 for 25/5 with comcast for the next two years.. hopefully some good fios pops up here though.
Seems like standard price from isps that are not a complete piece of shit. I get 50/8 mbps for $55/mo, and could get 100/15 for $100/mo. No contract, and price has not changed since we got it (except -$5/mo for the first year). No bandwidth caps either. I average over 200 gb down and 600 gb up per month, actual bandwidth is ~45 mbps in prime time, and 55 at night. upload is consistently ~7.5 mbps.
Bandwidth is dirt cheap to provide for anyone with the infrastructure to support it. The only reason we aren't all using 1 gbps+ connections is because of monopolies.
from everything my buds with RCN say, they enjoy it. I have comcast and kinda hate it. (Chicago area as well)
Comcast has made great strides to improve their customer service imo... But their pricing is straigh up ludicrous. And they keep inching up rates. Im going to give RCN a chance.
Sent from my HTC Arrive using Board Express
So I called rcn to upgrade my package, and see what Im really paying for service.
1 HD box
1 Tivo box
2 normal boxes
25 MBPS down/2 mbps up internet
Signature package cable (like 300 channels, including premium channels like G4 etc...)
HBO
And I pay $152/month after taxes.
I just upgraded to 50 mbps down internet, and only raised my rate $6/month.
